well it could be a good thing or a bad thing
for example a so call player like me;
if im in a relationship where my intention is just to get her into
the sack and continously after that happens just to have great sex
, i will not mention or even talk about marriage because i dont
need that in her brain and of course i dont plan to marry her at
all because i cant ( im married)
but if im in my twenties and i m in a serious relationship with a
girl ,of course its logical to talk about marriage as a probable
scenario in the future.
but if you are not interested in getting married , perhaps your
friend should warn him in the beginning this is not a marriageable
relationship , then he will not pursue that agenda or even get into
the relationship?
but who can understand woman? 
even after marriage i dont , all i do when they complain and nag
just nod and it will blow over,
woman with short memory are the best, life is too short to think
about every single thing
