Not sure but those deck mounted guns of the second world war german submarines looked like naval guns to me. Smile So I guess they could be submerged. It depends on the casting process and whether the gun barrels were navalised (treated).

the bridge look lower because the area in front of the bridge (with the Aster VLS) is protruding up a a level higher then the main deck....

it is not a "handsome" ship, but it looks purposeful and hi-tech..... hopefully, it is steathly lor.... :-)

The side of the turret should be sloped at the same angle as the edge of the deck.

Alternatively at a more aggressive slope as to point reflection somewhere else.

DD(X) demonstrator---SEA JET----- debuts

The 133-foot-long steel vessel, built by Dakota Creek Industries of Anacortes, Wash., is a one-quarter-scale model similar to the Navys new DD(X) class of destroyers.

With angled sides, knife-blade bow and rudderless underside, the Sea Jet will allow the Navy to test hull and bow designs, as well as new technologies in propulsion, fuels, stealth and materials, program director Steve Shreppler said.

The vessel is equipped with a Rolls-Royce Naval Marine underwater-discharge waterjet propulsion system, which allows ships to maneuver quietly in shallow water and at greater speeds, he said.

Similar to the water-propulsion systems on recreational personal watercraft, the Navy wants to test the characteristics of the rudderless, propellerless propulsion system, Cohen said.

After that system is tested a process that could take up to two years the Sea Jet will be revamped for another test. Its stern will be cut off and replaced with one powered by a podded propulsion system developed by General Dynamics Electric Boat that relies on a permanent magnetic motor to drive the propeller, Cohen said.

The vessels aluminum deck house eventually will be replaced with one made of composite materials to make it more stealthy, Shreppler said.
