I think that the Boleh Man would not used their precious T72 w/o proper mobile battlefield AA defences. Most likely, the PT72M would be used at the the defensive positions at stragetic locations, eg Sims rivers in Johor or in the central mountain ranges to threaten any possible armour thurst into the Boleh Man capital. They could also deploy the armour at the beach against any possible landing attacks.

Most armoured columns will move with their own AA support.

Don't know about MAF.

Hmmmm, Sometimes i really wonder if a certain english author of a certain book about Singapore's Armed forces was paid to include "Tempest" into that book. So called an unofficial way of doing things.

Besides, it justified our reasons for purchasings Apaches. =D

Of course our mechanised Igla is state of the art with surviellance radar, IRST optronics plus fully network computerised system, not just Igla missile but a system, just like the US Avenger system and German Ozelot system.

It is system that improve K prob in the area of protection.

Such system could easily be upgraded with other IR VSHORADS if necessary, for example when the Igla is obsolete with new better IR VSHORADS , all it is needed is to change the launchers and tweak the system for the new missile.

So I can see we will using this for long, long time, good investment for SAF.

This only shows the foresight of SAF. The SAF very seldom buy just for the
sack of buying. The things they bought usually fits the whole picture of a potential war-fighting scenario. And they plan well in advance, which can be seen from the consideration of possible future upgrades and technology transfers and supply of spares and ammo even before buying it. However i am not too sure about the AMX-10 vehicles because i think they have made a mistake when buying this. Anyone care to provide more info on this and comments as well? Very Happy

Foresight?

Maybe in the beginning during the 60's - 70's SAF actually had some foresight regarding its armour force.

But now, 40 years later we still operate the same AMX-13 light tanks that are by now over 50 years old. These tanks were proven to be poor performers in battle 40 years ago by the Israelis who immediately got rid of them all.

Then we bought another obsolete tank, the Tempest.

And then we bought the AMX-10, which apparently turned out to be a very bad choice.

Foresight?

Luckily, locally-made stuff like Bionix and Primus turned out to be nice pieces of work. So we should just carry on developing our own stuff for it seems every time the idiots in SAF make tank-purchase decisions, they will fcuk up. The next tank they buy will probably be another French piece-of-shxt AMX-zero or something.

I agree that the SM1 is obsolete but i beg to defer on Tempest. I have personally encountered it during my NSF days. It have been very heavily upgraded from the original Centurion MBT. This can clearly be seen from its exterior. I have also gotten info from a Reservist who is part of the unit using Tempest that the FCS is also upgraded. There are many things which i cannot say here but i assure you that Tempest is still a force to be reckon with despite its apparent old age. The Tempest is in a way similar to the Challenger submarines which we got. The hulls themselves are indeed old but the secret is what exist within those hulls. There is word that the equipment within the hull is almost totally replaced by new ones. They have been proven to be effective as can be seen in the recent excercise with the US carrier. Very Happy

The reservist also told me that our tempest are armed with 2 iglas and fixed with one more turret like this.

Dude, the exercise was public domain.Our Challenger surfaced inside the carrier kill zone, making us the only submarine force to have successfully penetrated a USN CBG defenses.Periscope photograph was presented to the CBG Captain by our Chief of Navy.

As for the AMX-13 ... what's wrong with our using the AMX-13 for the past 40 years?

The Israelis had to replace their AMX-13 with heavier MBTs because the MBT arms race in their theatre was a lot more dynamic than ours. As for us ... We operated in a relative vacuum as none of our immediate neighbours had the capability to deploy a credible armoured force. Seriously, if my enemy only has rocks to throw at me while I have rifles ... do I even need to bother getting something better.
