Gun SG notice in Google Earth, there is a 2 km long runway with hangers and ATC tower installation extending 090-270 along the entire length on an island off Jurong refinery island. Any idea what this airfield is for and what name ?
Gun SG with the internet, everything becomes a security nightmare. I assume this runway is intended more for handling RSAF planes with LIVE ammos during exercise near Pulau Sudong gunnery range which is only 1 km south of this island. It may also serve as emergency recovery for armed planes as there are arrester barrier/cables installation near both ends of the runway. Also there is no taxiway and only 1 visible hangers and rivetments at each end.
huaichien SG Don't scare him lah. The images in Google Earth are public domain, ISD will have to arrest thousands of people. On Google Earth's forum, even active and ex US servicemen post detailed comments on the facilities they work/worked in.
LazerLordz SG ISD would have to investigate the CIA, after all, it was their old 70s Keyhole satellites that are used to produce these images.
Cens SG Oh I know what that place is. Heck, I spent my NS looking after that island. Ah those were relaxing days No one to bother you unless some emergency happens.
huaichien SG What's the secret? Just look at any Singapore map, spot the one that has the same shape as the one you see with the runway and bingo, you've got it - Pulau Sudong. This and Pulau Pawai, Pulau Senang are the live-firing islands that the news often announces live-firing exercises and asks you to keep away.
Obersturmfuhrer SG The secret is in the details, not the 5-cent 10-cent stuff MINDEF release. Even if you do know what it actually is for, it won't hurt to shut up.
tvdog SG I have fond memories of the Pulau Sudong (sotong) airstrip. After day and night live firing we slept there at night. But being reservists we went there well stocked with food and liquor and had a real great time. In infantry being able to sleep on tarmac is considered a luxury. It's dangerous to sleep anywhere else on Sudong as it is full of little scorpions.
Guile SG Theres also a runway at the changi reclaim land. which is linked to nothing in particular and smack in the middle of no where.
SMAPLionHeart SG build so many airbase for what? enemy come , use B-52 , fly from Seletar , to Sembawang then to Tengah , detour downwards to sudong turn to changi , then paya lebar , then to brunei, you all siao liao..
huaichien SG Actually all these air bases are decoys, only a handful of planes there. The enemy sends missles/rockets to these bases and obliterates them. In his underground bunker, the PM pushes a little red button and a huge island emerges from somewhere under the sea (classified location, not telling you!). The fighters fly out from there just when the enemy is happily celebrating and catch them off-guard. Haha!
