If it is the SA-18, then it is better than the one we
have.
The one we have is the export version Igla-1(SA-16) , whereas Igla
(SA-18 ) is I think still not been exported to any non east
european countries.
But the report I think have some mistake, Igla-1 (SA-16) is the
export version which SG has bought and licensed produced as well is
the version that have performed well in conflicts, not the Russian
version SA-18 Igla.
Igla-1 is reported to have shoot down a number low flying AV-8s as
well as against helicopters, thus you could say it is combat
proven.
But in term of capability, our best VSHORADS is the Mistral(PK of
92%), next is the LBR RBS-70 and lastly of course is the
Igla.
But the cost of Mistral and RBS-70s are few times more than the
Igla, and the fact that we are licensed producing them( maybe even
improved on it), it cost even cheaper.
And the fact it is combat proven against low flying CAS a/c and
helicopters, it is a very cost effective weapon to have in abundant
in the role it's play in supporting ground troops against targets
that I have mentioned.
