Singapore to decide Rafale or Eagle by September!

last SG · 2005-08-04T01:25:38+00:00

I hope we decide on the Rafale, and we should not try too hard to 'americanise' the Rafale by shoving it with all-american weapons. For example, the AMRAAM,...

Eagle

much better looking. Confused

zquek SG

Apparently, the sale of the eagle to singapore is a life and death situation to the development and production of the Eagle. Recently, Boeing had delivered the last Eagle to ROK and some of them are basically upgraded surpluses. Production is now not going on and US is opting for F22 and JSF. Well. Im sure Boeing is sweating at this deal.

SpecOps87 SG

I have a gut feel that it would be Dassault Rafale. Why?Look at the ads for SAF day…Dassault Rafale is a sponsor…but Boeing is not.But then again…it could mean nothing.

was expecting the results to come out this month…now nothing but more waiting.

EAgle ,,,, combat-proven

Moonstriker SG

Eagle.

But... how good is the NGF if its an aircraft from the past? abit weird. But for spare parts & logistical side, Eagle will be the better choice.

fett SG

i like the eagle a lot but i think a platform designed and built in the late 60s to early 70s leave very little room for incorporating future mission needs and new technology.

should go for rafale. need a newer airframe to buy time before the F22 can come online (if we ever can/will buy them).

combat records doesn't mean much. F14 (another great plane i like) have great combat records but grumman didn't sell to anyone else besides Iran.
F4 have some good fighting record too, and it's from an earlier era. and it is still being use in some AF. might as well buy that. (i know it's out of production).

bottom line, get rafale. i think boeing was invited for political reason. same as in the case of ROK. and i think the koreans' pretty dumb to be buying them

SMAPLionHeart SG

Rafale is developed by France , the drawback of Rafale is that , Dassault has a limited spending capability compared to eagle.

Singapore should purchase more strike helicopters rather then fighter jets.

storywolf SG

This time very hard choice, too close a fight .

Both Rafale and Eagle are very good planes, no matter which one wins, it will be bessing for singapore to have it.

Eagle does have advantage in spares and stuff. But rafale cut the amount of ground crew by 1/2 which is something we cannot ignore.

maggot SG

Buy 1 of each Laughing

Take them apart and put the good parts to our old ones

Save a lot of $ this way

Lance_han SG

as if tat was possible in the first place... Laughing

SMAPLionHeart SG

I know! Buy up Lance_han , and then take him apart , for example ,
detach off his body organs , and put the parts into our old good soldiers.

I do not speculate on political matters Laughing

Hi guys,

Some time back, the Eagle lost a Israeli deal to the F-16, i guess this is a sign that the Eagle is fast losing favour among other states.

zquek SG

I think Dassault is really sincere and serious about this deal, well even though the future of the Rafale is much better than the Eagle due to firm support within the French military. Dassault is really trying to raise awareness among singaporeans on the Rafale, this can be seen on ads on buses and so on.

fkh SG

Well, it is well known that French are resentful of US dominance and will do anything to secure contract from reputable buyer.

Singapore had decided on US attack copter and naval helicopter.

Therefore, French feel that Singapore should buy French fighter plane, so that it will be fair to French and boost their prestige.
