the XM8 so far uses the 5.56 M855 ammo, there is talk that they
maybe rechamber for the 6.8mm SPC .
However, there is also talk that they are opening the rifle
competition to other makers since the SCAR is being adopted by the
SOCOM forces.
I have shot the closest to the XM8 which is the Heckler and Koch
G36, it handles very similar to a AR-18. the recoil is not much
more than the AUG , M16 or the SIG-550! it is however very annoying
on the cocking handle! it flaps in the middle of the rifle !
the ability to modulized the weapon system makes logistics much
easier, SPEc ops, normal infantry and others can all use same type
of weapon systems. Like the AUG< you can switch out barrel like
out Ultimax 100, can easily convert a SAW to a rifle to a SMG! all
by just swaping parts!
