You guys should try to check out the proposed J-12 fighter the PLAAF is planning to field by 2015. It looks suspiciously like an F-22A and bears no resemblan...

While the content of the translated article is pretty clear, I can’t help laughing at the mis-translations!

China could be a real superpower(sounds quite bad for sg). Considering the population of China and US, I believe china has more than double US’s population.

SMAPLionHeart SG

Around 4 times i presume.

thank you very much! Very Happy

nismoS132 SG

any other source of news?

can't find any online, except for 1 report.

sgdiehard SG

USA population is around 295 million and China's is 1.3 billion, not double, but double double, around 4.4 times!!!! are you scared?? sounds bad for sg????

nismoS132 SG

let's put things in perspective.

how many of that 1.3 billion are NOT living in rural villages, or knows what's a refridgerator?

The real danger is the growing wage gap. There is a big gulf between the provinces of the coastal regions and those deeper in. Heck most provinces without a port are bloody poor compared to those with!

Lance_han SG

tat isn't so bad...wat's worse is tat the US has a 4.4 million man army stationed AROUND THE WORLD while CHINA has a 100million man army stationed IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.....so if the population numbers are bad news...tis should be worst...

btw just my POV don think China will do anything dumb and att Taiwan...
1)world opinion is now somewhat on their side..and an att will give the US and its allies an overwhelming propganda tool....
2)the taiwanese economy is too intermixed wif China's...so an att there will cut off much needed profits....
and lastly...China is virtually surrounded by allies of the US.... so if they do att....the US has the ability to project at least it's airpower in the first few hours of any att watsoever....

Arena SG

Or are they actually using it as a CASINO ship for training casino workers? As their government had not approved the presence and creation of Casino like us?? haha

Paladin SG

Its nothing new. MM Lee already said that China will become a superpower one day.
Where have u been all these years? Rolling Eyes

ah_kwang SG

oops!! Imagine 10 years later... we log on to Sgforums, Military nuts. And everything appears in Chinese. Imagine our desktop... "my computer" would become "wo de dian nao"(in chinese). Worst still, our aircraft cockpit, radar systems, handphone, PDAs, TVs, MRT stations, everything in chinese. JIA LAT AH!!! Better brush up our chinese language!!!

Anyway, if China really overtake US, can singapore survive? considering or 'not so good' relations with China.

tvdog SG

This and several other posts seem to indicate that China is a potential enemy to Singapore.

I am very very curious how you guys arrive at this conclusion?

First of all, Chinese govt and people greatly admire SG. The Chinese government in the early days happily sent their officials to SG to learn about what makes our little island tick. They continue to view us as a China-friendly nation.

Secondly, it is also forgetting that SG govt has shrewdly cultivated realtionship with the Chinese govt for DECADES. We were there to help them modernise their economy long before anyone else. Though in the end we lost a lot of money but this money has bought us very good favour in the eyes of Chinese government.

For all the perceived ideological difference, the fact that we are all Chinese was not lost to the PAP and they played this card well. So relax, China does not view us as an enemy despite us appearing so western-oriented.

The recent admonishing of PM BG Lee HL was because the Chinese government has yet to acknowledge LHL as a senior leader worhty of respect - unlike his old man LKY which Chinese government holds in very high regard.

I would be wary of China rather than place our faith in her. There are no permanent friends, only permanent interests.

Being Chinese, I know that we can be very duplicitious.Same goes for the PRC.

lagi worse, even haven't yet reached the status of a Super-power, China is acting as a bully now, threatening to Nuke US, Japan and Taiwan (if Japan or Taiwan possess nuclear weapon). Wah liao.... what is this?

China is actually like the pre-WWII Japan and they have the face to criticise Japan for not apologising to China for the WW2 atrocities... double talk man....

Being a Chinese, I am very very afraid of a overly powerful PRC. I like Chinese to be strong throughout the world but definitely not under the Communist regime....

...and yes, I do think that if the mainlander really love Taiwan, they should set it free and let it choose the path, selfish forced possession is NOT love at all.

SMAPLionHeart SG

Just look at the way they speak in MRT / using their mobile phone.

Laughing

SMAPLionHeart SG

China may never recover if it fights with the USA, it might lose more then what it had. China , after fighting Taiwan and USA , might experience another invasion by it's neighbours again....

Taiwan should have declared independence long ago , but then again , a war will stilll happen , cause they will also still have the intention to take it back.

tvdog SG

sorry

dude ure info is wrong.....china nuclear policy is that china will never nvr start to use its nuclear weapons first......only when other countries like US try to interfear with china's policy towards taiwan and attack china.....

golani_bde SG

Well, I don't think it is alot if you divide that with the land area China has to defend. On a ratio basis, Singapore is crazier.

golani_bde SG

Isn't the US a bigger bully? What would you do if your friends living on Palau Ubin decides to be independent from mainland Singapore? And your neighbors come in to encourage this separatism? Woudl you set Ubin inhabitants free because you love them and they are also Singaporeans previously?

I also belive that Japan shares a higher portion of the blame for existing bad r/s between China and Japan. Can't they just own up, apologise and move on like the Germans?
