TP's tow fee is $160?!!!

My car was towed away by TP last week cos it had broken down by the roadside and I had left it unattended (I had decided to get a tow truck only in the next morning).

I went to TP yesterday morning and did the necessary paperwork to retrieve my car. The officer later told me that they will not press the summons against me as they understand that my car was broken down. But I was told to pay the TP tow charges of $160.

$160??!!!!! What kind of towing is that? I had ever engaged my personal towing service to tow my car before, and it cost only $40!!! Moreover, we know that when government departments get contractors to do some jobs, they must get something like 3 quotations, and choose the cheapest one!

I have written a letter to TP to demand for explanation. They better give me a good one.

Writing to the TP is wasting of time. Police Force have a public affairs department. They will write a 'very nice' letter to you.

How come TP tow fee is much much more higher. That is because of administrative costs, storage costs, etc and etc.

Just like applying for replacement of NRIC. How come such a small card cost $60 for replacement? The card and processing fees simply cost only less than $8. No point writing to them.

By the way, towing service is available 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. Why do you need to leave it there till the next morning. And also, are you parking along double-yellow line? Later they return to deduct your demerit points.

Bro, I just faced the same situation as you! Haha my car was towed away last night and I was asked to pay the tow charge of $160 also.

And also, there is more to add,

If the TP don't give you a good reply, what you going to do? In the first place, you are in the wrong. Under the traffic act, they are authorised to tow your vehicle away and the charges are acceptable. Have anyone appeal that while speeding, they are given, for example, 6 demerit points and fine $120. You can write to them say why not just 2 points and fine $60? No right? Then why you still write to them. Wasting time and resources.

Why original bumper sold by Borneo Motor cost $500 whereas outside u can get for $150?

Why agent car sell for $88,888 but you can PI it for $75k?

Moral of the story : Those "official" channels stuff is always damn expensive. They are not gonna crack their head thinking how they can help you save money, but will juz make sure all their costs are covered.

For Towing + admin + storage, I think $160 is quite reasonable. Unless you were really in an emergency and could not get your own tow truck as you had sumtin to attend to, I think u boh pian.

Actually the high price also add as a deterrence to damaging/losing the card. That is why each time you replace, the price went up.
