If price is directly proportional to engine capacity, I will be
first to buy the RX8.
The reason why the Passat 2.0 is cheaper than the 1.8T is because
it has a totally different engine(4speed gearbox for 2.0 and 5speed
gearbox for 1.8T), lacks the turbo and much more gadgets and
accessories. Here are the specs for the 2.0 version.
Model: Volkswagen Passat 2.0
Engine: 1,984cc 8V in-line four
Max Power: 115bhp at 5,400rpm
Max Torque: 172Nm at 3,500rpm
Gearbox: 4-speed automatic
Top Speed: 193km/h
0-100 km/h: 12.4 seconds
As you can see that the price is 92k, the Passat 2.0 is targetted
at the Japanese large car segment which include cars such as Camry,
Accord, Cefiro and etc. Whereas, the 1.8T is about 130k and
targetted at cars such as the S60, 9-3 and so on.
