When talking about Chinas military, Janes report is no difference with various China based military internet portal. 1 famous example is Janes report on PLAs so-called WS-2 MLRS having a range up to 360km, finally, it turned out to be just a joke.

KJ2000 compared to E2T, is somewhat like compare a E3 to E2.

1. E2T basically still an AEW&C, however, with more roomy A50 airframe, the full function controlling console is on board KJ2000, makes it a true AWACS.

2. Comparing radar system, the 3 Active Phased Array Radar ( APAR, or AESA in US way) antennas are placed in a triangular configuration inside the round radome on KJ2000 to provide a 360 degree coverage. The E2Ts radar is still a mechanical scanned PD.

3. With the more powerful airborne radar, the KJ2000 can search more than 500km in distance, make it only need flow alone Chinas coastline within the Theater defense of land based S300 to cover whole Taiwan.

4. KJ2000 is also datalinkable to PLANs newly deployed type052C DDG with Aegis style 4-ararry APAR antennas . In comparison, the Aegiss SPY-1 is still passive radar. The E2/Aegis combination is the backbone of the US fleet air defense. Likewise, the KJ2000/Type052C combo also gives a edge over the Taiwans force.

The June, 2005 issue of Kanwa Defensive Review also confirmed the Aegis style radar on Type052C is a powerful APAR, this magazine is available in HK and Taiwan bookshops.

Made a mistake here, Aegiss SPY-1 is NOT a passive radar, but a ESA Radar with normal Travelling Wave Tube instead of AESA radars T/R unit. There do have Passive radar that used for guiding ARM.
But not SPY-1

I agree the outlook for defence of Taiwan is not rosy. Although I personally would prefer to see Taiwan reunified together with a democratic China, this is not likely to be realised for some time, if at all.

Meantime, it is the lesser evil to maintain status quo and hope that in time, China will move towards some form of democracy.

If Taiwan's armed forces are not able to keep up with the rapid improvement in the PLA, in time to come, the CCP may just be tempted to retake Taiwan by force eventually. Let's hope this does not happen and some form of balance will be maintained.

I understand ROCAF took delivery of 2 E2C 2000 recently. This may be part of their strategic plans; however, I don't really know enough about the overall balance of forces across the straits to say whether the Taiwanese are either maintaining or losing their edge. Perhaps someone with better understanding about the subject could provide a little background info here.

Emm u know some times we just like to talk about the juice hardware in a fans forum, however, if comes to the reality, then the boring software side like combat readiness, personnel training cant be ignored.

If take consider both the hardware n software, ROC force at the moment is still at the lead, however, the time is at the China side.

Taiwan force operates AWACS much longer than the PLA, and Type052C although with much advance stuffs, its still more a trial model than a massive produced DDG. Sure there are many bugs in their software need to be figured out during the coming years by means of extensive exercise and training. To develop a skillful term also need time, Lets put in safe, at least 3 years are needed when those systems are full operational.

Regarding the role of ROC forces, I dont think its fair to ask them to keep balance with mighty China. In fact, the US is talking about how long it could hold in face of PLA all dimensions attack, Yankees are asking for 1 month, Taiwan answers 2 weeks at least.

My guess is as long as Taiwan dont suicide enough to declare a Formal independent which will invite PLA attack. In any other scenarios, The US forces will come into intervene. Because another ally Japans 80% ship traffics are passing by Taiwan. The Chinas taking over of Taiwan will bring Japans knees down, which means US

In my view, China had learnt a lot in terms of preparing for war and fighting a war. They had learn the lesson of both world war. Economy is power. To fight a war, you must have strong economy support. See what happen to Germany and Japan during the WW2. They have the most advance stuff but what happened to the end? Having advance stuff and using it is one think. Attrition is another thing. Replacement rate. Since ancient time. attrition war is the most important aspect of warfare. Who can lose more wins.

From now till 2008 at least, China will be only interested in building its economy powerhouse. Till the days in became a econmy powerhouse. China will not touch Taiwan. As touching Taiwan will upset the American and the Japanese. But all these are based on the fact that Taiwan don't stir Sh*t. The trend in Taiwan is if the presidential Election in 2008 went back to KMT (Mr. Mah YC), there are chances of reunification. Of course in PRC's term. But who cares, as long as PRC allows KMT to be the provincial gov't, maintaining the status quo in Taiwan (Just like Hong Kong). I think that will work. But again, the US will not allow this to happen too. US need a reason to stay in Asia Pacific. If China became the Big Bro of Asia, America will be in trouble as nobody in Asia will pay "protection fee" to them.

That is the reason US is trying to suppress China's economy growth as China have a lot of potential to be No1 if they are focus enough to know what to do.
