John Ching SG Er! Ged, I do believed that Tvdog in another thread claimed he's living in China now, so I don't think he'll meet you anytime soon. Anyway, I've read his earlier thread on the topic & I think he wasn't really intending on picking a fight with anyone, just maybe he wasn't being diplomatic in his replies. I mean he does have a point that not all FFL are anal lovers considering the fact that the FFL are not all made up of French"men". As for his doubts about your military service, shame on him for that. Everyone knows that a soldier is able to walk the walk & talk the talk because a real soldier is able to do what he says he can do, so theres no way to lie about it. Seriously hope the current exchanges are just words & go no further then that, I mean its been interesting reading exchanges between him & you.
zquek SG Im not sure that if you guys know this. It is illegal for a Singaporean to be part of any military forces except its own. If im not wrong the punishment is jail term of 4-8 years. Yeah. so if you join the legione. Don't come back. Good Luck.
LazerLordz SG Well, if a person is running away to join the Legion, he would be welcoming the offer of a EU citizenship already.
lwflee SG Do you know the statue invovled? At least point me to the relevant statute. Thanks. If you are right, then i have to say that it is another reason for me to hate singapore. Seriously, Singapore citizenship carries with it so much restrictions and burdens with none of the corresponding benefits. I get so depressed sometimes.
Joshua1975 SG as you had put it yourself "illegal for a Singaporean" anyone who wish to join other military force will not want to be or he oredi plan to give up the pink card. if one go and by the end of contract and get a new status. come back as Frenchman. i really dun know what can the GOV do to one??? maybe the garment should look into why ppl want to go out change status and than come back? no point telling ppl it wrong and will get a jail term of 4-8 years if that is your intention.
lwflee SG Ok - the problem is that if you want to join a foreign army, there will be security checks involved. If they find out that it would be illegal for you to join their army, i would think it logical that they would reject your application. If Z is corrent, then being born is Singapore is beginning to sound like a damn curse that cannot be exorcised.
Joshua1975 SG looks like you not very sure of French Foreign Legion (FFL)... unless you are talking about other army.
lwflee SG Ya - i am just talking about foreign armies in general. I prefer not to go into details until i have decided for sure. One thing though is that the FFL is out for me (despite the title of the thread); i can't hack it in the FFL.
LazerLordz SG Yes, if you include the citizenship and NS policies, plus the poor blogger and A*Star. And the extra-territorial drug laws which mean if you have consumed drugs at a party in London's ChinaWhite and you fly back soon after, and you get snagged for a drug test at China Black here and they find traces in your bloodstream, you can be charged for consumption. It was a honour to be born a Singaporean..but now I do not know who has made it into a curse. The establishment or circumstances ... Sigh..We all want to love our nation, please give us a chance to love her in our own way.
chronicles SG Last time when British colonised aus and new zealand now got such thing as aus Sas called sasr(Special air services regiment) and the new zealand sas, wonder why singapore dont have a sas branch
Lance_han SG well...for starters we have the Guards and the commandos.... edit:india was once a british colony..but they don have SAS also
snk86 SG woah, the legion is indeed a fantasy for me a few years back, but come to think about it, rather serve my own arm force then serve another countries, and France, sheesh….........at least you don’t need to learn a new language in USMC…
LazerLordz SG Imagine a Royal Singapore Special Air Service,... Special Air Service ke Di-Raja Singapura
Obersturmfuhrer SG Both Oz and NZ are not totally independent "republics". They still have the Queen as their Head-of-state with a Governer-General appointed by Her Majesty. And their services are still titled "Royal". Besides, SAS is just another SF group. We already have an SOF, Cdos, Guards. do we really need another? Or would you prefer a whole army of SFs? Dun make tactical sense to me.
