Frigate is nothing to be proud of.

It will be better if RSN have Aegis destroyers..

Why ? Aegis Destroyers have long ranged SAM (SM-2)

and Tomahawks.

Good to have but overkill in terms of practical use and then, theres manpower issues and COST (dun want to end up like a superpower in debt).

Less then 100 men per Frigate. Six frigate only 600 men, this is excluding the shore support personnel.

I don't think we need a massive recruitment lah.

Anyway with the shift from 6 Manpower instensive ex-USN LST to 4 Endurance LST we probably save a lot of manpower from there!

adding 600 to the payrolls is massive considering rsn publicsed manpower strength. not sure if those guys from the lst is still around. what have they been doing all these years? idling? lst had long been decomm.

the formidable is comparable to the aegis... .. it even exceed the aegis in capability in some areas... like mass missile guidance, stealth, sonar, cost efficiency and automation.

the aegis have the advantage of land attack with tomahawk... something that RSN might get if we get the storm shadow for the formidable.

in terms of long range SAM... the SM-2 is only slightly longer range (~10km) then an ASTER 30.. but ASTER 30 have active radar... while SM-2 dont.

in terms close range anti-missile defence.. the aster15 beats the SM-2 easily..

yeap but even with a super low attrition rate, the sudden surge in manpower needs of 6 FFG makes me think that all the RSN ship island-wide will only be manned by a skeleton crew. hmm.. any idea when the FFG squadron will become operational?
