Upsurge in electricity bill but S'pore Power can't help to e

I want to focus attention on the sudden increase in the electricity charges in the last two months for my five-room flat.
My office colleagues and relatives are also affected by the sudden large increase in their utility bills.

In the last 12 months, my PUB bills were quite consistent. But during the past two months, there was a sudden increase of about 30% in the bill even though there was no reason for it.

Even with the recent rate increase, the bill shouldn't be so big.

I called Singapore Power's customer service department to tell them I was over-charged.

But I was told that the bills were based on the meter readings. I was told to check my meter by switching off the main power supply and see whether the meter was running.

If it kept running, it indicated a power leakage in my house because of defective home appliances.

The customer service department insisted that their bills were correct.

Their response did not clear my doubts. Nor did they answer my queries satisfactorily.

The frustrating thing was the impolite and impatient attitude in answering my enquires.

Shouldn't the customer service be trained to have the correct mindset and respond to queries and provide solutions instead of giving customers a cold shoulder?

I think the customer service staff should do better.

I have, and mostly we all have at one time or another, called Singapore Power to quiry them about billing.

They will always insist that they charge by meter readings, and that they're calculations are correct. However, it makes no sense, that charges still go up after cutting down usage of electricity at home. And no matter how you stinge on power usage over the months, the trend is always the same - upwards.

Somehow it seems they have a formula of calculating charges that is always upwards in trend. Even when they haven't increase tarriffs, charges were steadily climbing no matter how we conserve energy at home.

What does this say? They are applying some very 'creative' accounting on all of us.

what does anyone expect customer service to reply?

They themselves know too little of how the charges really come about and most will not bother to find out/little avenue to find out and when customers call,they only will go according to a standard scipt given to superiors aka saying go by meter is sure to be correct,ask them further and sure they will know nothing more.Also with the pityful low salaries they get and having to endure rude replies everyday cos of company policy,how many will bother to go that extra mile to help anyone.

Maybe if singaporean can learn to be more gracious and not treat customer service people like shi.t then maybe general customer service will be better

Everytime I complain, or rather, give a feedback, I would call for the operator to give my line to the manager. No point talking to someone who cannot make decisions. Those sweet ladies are there only to convice that your bill is correct, you ask more, they say the same thing.
Never, EVER, talk to someone who CANNOT solve your problems.

lol it is because of people like you that customer service people dun bother much.Since people like to think of them as just operators,then fine lor,they will give you operator standard of service.

No matter what your past experience were,when you call up,giving some respect to whoever is picking up your call may earn you some respect back and they may be much more willing to try help you better,show them you immedately think they cannot help you,even if they actually can help you,they will also fuc.k care.

Too many people like you calling everyday,and it is no wonder that these people are jaded even if maybe some of them really went into this line in the first place wanting to help people.

having heard their reason to increase the electricity tarrifs which in my view is a bloody joke. What is the point of contacting them. Besides, they are a monopoly.

From politics to a number of glcs, have no one noticed beyond the "fake" surface, there is really no substance.

I totally agree man... I have went to the extent of not using the air-conditioners and my bloody bills are exactly the same... and yes... the answer's always "the meter reading"

i remember one time the PUB bo tai bo ji send one guy down my house n change the meter (the water one) without informing the residents.... and they just left a note at my doorstep sae meter spoil...
then when i go n look at the meter, the reading run faster then be4 and at the end of the month the PUB billing increased.....
