a) The M16 is very light and easy to use.
b) I don't like mounting LADs at the front of the M16 - makes it
front heavy.
c) SAR21 is well balanced, comfortable, and shorter. Has laser
aiming device for close combat, 1.5 optical scope.
d) SAR21 was not designed for left handed/shoulder use, and the
fire selector is badly located. Standard version has no rails for
additional optical night sights.
e) I guess it would be an advantage to have a locally produced
rifle to replace the M16.
f) Internationally - the HK G36 series appears to be a very good
and popular alternative these days. The other alternative is the
Canadian version of the M16.
g) The M16 has been around for 30 years. There are fathers who had
used the M16 rifle in the 1970s' during NS, and now they have sons
using the same M16s. We should be moving on to a newer updated
rifle.
