hello, u claim that u are a mechanic den u shd know betta rite? more gears means more effective coverage of rpm at every speed to maximize engine power and efficiency. 4 gears only and the gearing usually spaced too far out to fully make use of the engine's potential.

when u drive, u use the top gear only izit? even in "D", u also have to use the lower gears first before u reach the top gear correct? so wats all this nonsense about lower gears are only for hill climbing/cannot use for normal driving or else car will spoil? Rolling Eyes

Sorry to disppoint you, but your news are very outdated. You heard from the mechanics ? yes the inital stream does have does have some problem when it 1st came out. But it been kept upgraded over the years by now it is refined mpv. So you cannot use old news to compare what already been long fixed.
But the news is stay away from the 1.7L stream, buy only the 2.0 L.

haha even a kid cycling know about more gear the better performance ! it is the same principle with bicycle, you are trying to tell people a 16 gear bicycle is better then a 21 bicycle ? try selling that to your kids !

Who would be so stupid to drive 5 gear uphill, even the car automatic system is definitely smarter then you then, cause it will reduce itself automatically and you will not spoil it even you want to. By the way , singapore road is mostly flat , thus very good for 5 gear.

By the way, 2 of my friend both have stream 2.0 , their even the old stream 2.0 . Already 3-4 years totally no problem with the automatic transmission at all, in fact they perform so well that when I wanted to buy wish, they ask me to try test drive the new stream 2.0 first.

After that indeed, you can tell a world of different, that why I am driving the new stream 2.0. well totally no problem with automatic transmission. What the point of 5 gear ? by 80km the 5 gear already kick in , so you say useful or not .

Why the Wish is so popular is people just fall crazy in love with the windows. Those are real darken glass windows, the glass is darkend glass, not film paste on. Frankly the window is darken enough, you don't want to darkend more, if not then buy a van if you don't want to look out of the window. haha.

anyway , the facts speaks for itself which is a more popular car. Judging by the number of wishes on the roads compared to streams..... Wish wins hands down.

WISH is more popular than stream 1.7 / 2.0 . Period.

You don't just follow blindly. By the way what fact and figures do you have to say that there is more wish than stream ? Maybe in your neighbourhood have more wish, does not mean other neighbourhood is the same . Even if more people buy it does not mean it is a better car. Like that so many taxi - using toyota crown, by your reasoning then it is the better car, you buy is it .

One thing price wish is cheaper then stream. Also because it have a nicer outer shape and black windows does help it to get more buyers.

I am speaking as someone who was orginially is also die die must buy wish person. What I did was I did 3 test drive each on both wish and stream 2.0. Each time the winner is so clear which stream 2.0 turn out the clear winner.

The Toyota Wish is indeed a beauty. Low FC, Big, Spacious and looks real good with bodykits, and i think its only going for 70k++...

You might want to consider that though is a good catch, the springs (suspensions) are said to be very soft. I have heard that in Malaysia, there are people who drove and cornered at a rather high speed, and the vehicle actually OVERTURNED!!

Then again,you are in Sg, so no problem. Soft springs=Comfort.

I agree with your statement more people buy doesnt mean the car is better, but it definitely mean the car is more popular among singaporeans.

bad downside is that the Wish is JDM....which means that there's only front aircon blower.....imagin fully packed on a hot day..and all depend on front 2 blower? and also it will lose out to those common 2 litre In-line 4 to 2.7 V6 models

but then also its price is low....and if u want a cheap small MPV then this is the one.....BTW what abt the (is it Toyota or Honda) Isis?..the rear stop light is same as the Grandis and is also nice....

stream 2.0L should compare with Wish 2.0

stream 1.7L should compare with Wish 1.8L

no point keep saying stream 2.0 engine drives better than wish 1.8L. What;s your basis for comparison?

i dont doubt stream 2.0L engine drives better than wish 1.8L , if it is not better, then whats the point of having a 2.0L engine, not forgetting you gotta pay more road tax, insurance etc.... and of course, more money for petrol .

Since the market only have offer only wish 1.8L , and you ownself already say there is no doubt stream 2.0 engine drive better then the wish 1.8L engine. What is there to argue ? You ownself say it clearly and loud for everyone here to see, that you are someone who drive and sat in both car before. That already the engine basic for comparison. We are here just to advice on the pro and con of each wish and give comparison of competition. Since you ownself agree on what I say about the engine performance, then case close.

Want to compare cheap then get the trajet in better !! there be no end.

As for which is the popular car , who cares ! By then everyone also bring in their own favour car. End up like i say toyota crown most popular car why ? Taxi so many all over. !!

Is it that hard to admit that Stream is not as popular as Wish among singaporean car buyers? i am not implying that stream is lousy compared to wish, right?

imho, i think more people bought wish because it appeals to them more esp in the looks department, better fuel economy, more affordable pricing, toyota branding and reliablilty. These are the people who place less emphasis on engine and car performance .... ultimately, the typical profile of a MPV car owner would be the family man with kids +/- grandparents to ferry around.

hopefully the forumer after reading these posts that you and me have generated can make a more informed decision as to which car is more suitable to his/ her own personal needs.

pls do not take this personal... a forum is also like a debate... one is entitled to have his /her own opinions ... well the discussion seems to be getting interesting huh!

Wish owners will be happy to share their feedbacks and recommendated PI deals. Many have great MODs, parts mass order and bodykits lobangs to share. So do dropby on our weekly meet and hv an eyeful of dozens of gorgeous Wish & happy owners.

FYI, Wish is indeed THE most popular mpv in the Japanese market for the last few yrs ever since Toyota launched it in late 2002. According to Japanese auto statistic, it is only 2nd to Corolla in 2003 sales unit. I think the market already speak for itself how attractive this babe is.

Let's face it. If the Wish's pricing wasn't so attractive, it wouldn't so popular. Singaporeans just "ai pi, ai chi" (want cheap, want good). The thought of having a Made-in-Japan 7-seater MPV for <$80k is too good to resist for many.

That's why the 2.0l Nissan Cefiro is so popular even though it is obviously heavy, underpowered and swallows petrol. Another case in point is the Hyundai Matrix.

Sat in one before and sat in the back row with a friend. Driver driving from pioneer road to jurong raffles club area for lunch.. and we felt very stuffy at the back row cos the air con does not reach the back. max is only the middle row. Back row ok for those short legs ppl or kids. Sad

JDM or not I believe its all about individual's preference, need and budget.
Like the Matrix u mentioned, its also an effordable and practical Korean make that remains as popular as ever.

THe main putoff by potential buys is due to grey-importers which suffers from image and reliability problem. That, interestingly, had been override by many buyers who had consider the brand and attactiveness of the product itself.

That overwhelming sellibility of a product, like Wish, suddenly becomes a hot-cake for the parallel importers. Just take a sampling check on roads today.
Toyota Wish outnumbered its Honda Stream rival easily. That placed authorised distributors like KM and BM to shame as it shows local motorist are willing to put their $$$ on vehicles reputation rather than these distributor's. Many car makers consider Singapore market a very tough.

If Wish can simply sell via parallel importors, doesn't that reflect the trust local market has on this car ?

A Toyota JDM 1.8l MPV going at sub-S$80k ? Why not ? Laughing

i sat in one of my relatives' wish in the third row.
His JDM wish has tinted windows which help to reduce the glare from the sun, and he switched the aircon flow to come from the top of the dashboard which is suppose to direct flow to the third row, and increase the fan speed to 3.
with all these things, i dont find it hot.

Cagelee131 - bearbear18 say stuffy - not hot ! But the tinted glass do help a lot - it prevent other cars from seeing the poor suffocated folks in the 3rd row !! haha just kidding !! Must find something good to say about the tinted glass what, which is the major attraction of wish.

Stuffy = Lacking sufficient ventilation = suffocation. Think that is worst then hot.

Of course for short journey of less then 1/2hr you will not feel it, but imagine in the 3rd row for 1hr or more, can be kind of very uncomfortable. What Bearbear18 say it true, the air-cond does only rearch the middle row only. Also if you keep it full burst in trying to reach the 3rd row, 1st row passenger or 2nd row passenger will be freeze before the air even reach the 3rd row. That is a short coming of not having rear air-cond.
