I've never had a puppy... my dogs were all taken over from other
people who didn't want them anymore. My current dog came to my
house when she was one year old and she sticks to my elder brother
wherever he goes... even the bathroom. 
Maybe they'll see the new owner as umm, their savior? Depends on
circumstances I guess.
I know it's tiring each time somebody here wants to buy a dog, that
person has to go through all these talk about adoption. But do take
a look at the shelters la *nudge nudge* Anything can happen... who
knows, you might fall in love with one of the dogs and cats there
at first sight!
