i guess its all based on de personal habit.. i rarely have my fingers on de trigger even when i converted from m16s1 to sar21 half yr ago and my index finger...

As ALL of us noe, safe gun handling is one of the TOP priorities for a police/military unit as the consequences of a firearm wif live ammunition in unprofessional hands will onlie result in disaster. The pic below is such an insult tat I juz cant help but post it! LoL!

This pic was taken in the 2002 World Cup in Korea of a police officer on duty. As all of us can already see, his finger is ON THE TRIGGER when it shld be off it. More shockingly, the gun is set to SEMI-AUTO!! Holey cripes! Tink he'll get into some deep-**** after tis pic though.. Hehe.. Oh yeah, notice the how his gun is held.. Angled towards a HUGE crowd.

He should not be unprofessional, or he wouldn't be assigned to such a high-profile assignment.

Well,anyone bothered to go Changi Airport to take a pic?Our troopers and the SOC boys also do the same.Fingers inside trigger guard although the weapon is on safe.Still its not a good practice.Finger should not be in trigger guard till one is ready to engage or when there is a threat.Hmmmz…show you alot bout the way they are trained ehz?

Yes we can be sure that they are well trained and they know what part of the M16 to hit to perform a reload.

And they know it's not called a "ease-spring".

We must take into account the fact that they are in public places. With lots of people looking at them and probably photographing them.
What if the officer in question was only taking his hand away to scratch his nose?

And just at that split second someone took a pix?
Ah.

Remember that that's not a video clip of the officer walkin around for a long time with finger inside the trigger guard.

let me pose a question to you… would you have made such a big fuss if you saw a Sayaret Matkal Cdo/US Special Forces do the same thing? Granted, keeping your finger outside of the trigger guard is a safe practice, ESP. ard civilians…... but would you kick up as big a fuss if it was someone which you PERCEIVED to be better trained? just playing the devil’s advocate here…. =)

Look carefully at his whole hand, the trigger finger maybe touching on the trigger but the rest of his fingers are not gripping the weapon tight. Its not really a big deal as long as he doesn't shoot off. Rolling Eyes

He is probably pumped up by the sight of the large number of civilians attending the match & mentaly worries that he might missed a bad guy. Wink

I have the dubious opportunity to work on J I (go figure) where security is tight and go through the checkpoint every day.

Most of those doing sentry duty are NS Men (Reservist), sometimes NSF together with CISCO etc. Most times spot them with finger "on" trigger; till someone wrote in and a change in "Standing Orders" put a stop to it. (although still spot sentries 'sitting down' at times).

Having your finger on the trigger is ill-advised (as this is poor weapon safety). The M-16 has space on the pistol grip for all 4 fingers (your tumb wraps round other side duh!) as original design was for larger hands. The SAR 21, being local design is designed for asian users with a shorter pistol grip.

The tendancy for your index/pointing finger to 'stray' onto the trigger is hard to suppress. Blame it on this small oversight, as well as economy on materials, .

It may also be interesting to ask if all weapons basic design parameters pre-suposes that finger "on" the trigger; is more likely state than, finger 'off' the trigger.
