electric detonators ususally set off the primers to the charges
by the means of using electricity.. they may range from the
conventional batteries that you put into your appliances or it may
be generated through hand-powered generators.. once the electrical
pulse is sent through the 2 wires, the spark would initiate the
primer or 'first-fire' in order to get the larger charge to
explode, as the larger charge is usually more stable in nature and
isn't really prone to combustions.. if i remember correctly, i
think in primary school or secondary school we did experiments on
the 'filament wire' thing. that's exactly the same thing.. the
thing will become hot and ignite the primer.
non-electric detonators, as it's name suggests, uses the old method
of lighting the fuse or as it's commonly known term, det-cord.
det-cord is used by the many of us here in the army as it's
waterproof, cheap and burns at a fast rate. it's this tube with a
small portion of (i think) c4 inside it, and once you set it off,
you better run cause it burns F-A-S-T. however there are also other
non electric detonators such as delayed-timers, using acid to melt
away stuff or water, you know lah...
anyway post-sept 11, i've always didn't like to talk about this
topic so i shall not say too much.
