storm_freaky13 SG Say for example u want to overtake a car on Lane 1 because u are in a hurry, what do you do? Horn? high beam? if u friendly horn (taps on the horn) the car in front slows down because he thinks u just scolded him or something but you actually just wanted to say 'excuse me' but the driver in front read as 'get the F_U_C_K out of my way'?!? how? so what are the written/unwritten rules to signal to someone? please share happy and horror stories so that people can learn.. Also heard in korea when u turn on your hazard lights it means u are in an emergency can we do that here?
so_nice SG in sg, the other driver would probably think “hey..this idiot has forgotten to turn off his hazard lights!”
kentheman SG wat i normally do is tt i travel at high speed on the extreme right lane (110-130 kph) and got car in front, i will flash flash high beam lo…if still dunwan give way u oso lan lan…
mach10 SG Drive on Extreme right lane lar... rules on the road: dun be silly, u are on singapore road. in anyways just dun be like tt red civic on PIE who tinks he is driving an EVO or something...
houndy SG turn on your right signal… that one is the sign to say you want to overtake him and ask the driver in front to move.. but then most singapore driver will think you are flashing the wrong side signal and will ignore you…
storm_freaky13 SG right signal sounds alright... maybe we should adopt it should the situation arise... still dun give way high beam... otherwise like what kentheman said... he dun give way lan lan...
wbucket SG In US, high beam means giving way, as in the driver is telling others he is giving way instead of the other way round. Maybe because we switch down to “ON”, they swtich up. Opposite!
^VioS^ SG Heh Heh....in msia prob when u see a s'porean car approaching in the opp direction flashing his High beams at you, it probably means he's juz passed a speed trap...
wbucket SG Singapore too. I have a couple who flash me too. I kept an open mind and asked my friend afterwards. He was driving in front and told me he did spotted the speed trap in the opposite direction.
Commander_2224 SG Then what if say you see that a driver has forgotten to on his/her headlights? What would you do? So far, I have seen my fair share of these…
wbucket SG I got a high beam flash too. From a Taxi when he is waiting to turn right. Kind of strange being flash at, so same thing open mind! After found out I was only using the parking light (1 click on the light). Need to do 2 click for the full head light. Actually I found my friend doing the same thing too when he got his new car, anyone else have this kind of experiences?
mitgalant SG acutally if u are on the fastest lane and u need to overtake, u juz need to signal right. Most likely ppl will gif way. Buy again, not many ppl knw about this signallin thing. But thats wat i normally do to overtake on the extreme right lane
hisoka SG pple flash beam at me when i on 1st lane i see if i got anythign wrong or not if nothing wrong then see that guy rude or not(feeling about how he flashes and whether he got make gestures hard to explain) if rude then i slow down abit if not rude and not too much trouble i assume he wanna overtake but lazy t switch lane so if i good mood i will switch let him go
eurodriver SG May I share my opinions of Singapore drivers. If you want to signal a driver on Lane 1 [extreme right lane] to make way for you, FORGET IT, you can only L L. Wait for a safe opportunity to change to the next left lane, and then move on. Using the high beam and horn will not change his style. He may then slow down or brake in response. If he is willing to make way for you in the first place, he would have noticed you in his rearview mirror, and make way in ample time. There is no need to high beam or horn. Also forget about using hazard light to signal, some driver don't even look in their rearview mirror at all. In all kinds of traffic frustations in Singapore, if you think you L L, then you are more at peace.
wbucket SG Even so, I hope readers of this thread would practice the various methods/signals when they are on the road. Would help to let more people know about driving with coutesy. I also learn about right signal for overtaking in this very forum.
A_vErY_pOoR_gUy SG the right signal does not work. i got a fren whu use his front bumper to push the car in front. (but this was a case that the car was trying to be funny. driving less than 70 in the middle of the nite and a car on my fren left)
kopiosatu SG Ya, but I use it on some cars travelling in malaysia they still knn stay in the lane like they're travelling on PIE. Then again if they don't make way due to jams or slow traffic, I just travel between lanes to clear the blockage before heading back into a lane.
nick34 SG Tried driving at the speed of 160 constant heading up KL ... either i flash or signal right ... 99% Malaysian vehicles will give way
