NSman for peacekeeping mission?

Can anyone tell me if I can volunteer for SAF peacekeeping mission as a NSman (ie. Reservist) cos I'm sick and tired of my job... Laughing I have a friend who flew helicopters in East Timor as a NSman, but he was a regular helicopter pilot who retired after 45...

think they rather send active units there,cos they are more well trained and up to date..

not forgetting they contribute more to SAF cos they serve at least 2x longer term than NSFs

Yes, my fren went for peacekeeping as a NSman, of coz it is not in hostile area but in admin and support.

Talk to your CSM, PC, OC to get approval before approaching your S1.

Why don't you try talking to your reserve unit 1st? They could probably arrange the necessary paper works for you. Smile

One of my school mates volunteered for the 1st Gulf War 1990/ 91. He was a Commando (MO) doctor doing his NS. But I believe he was selected and then asked if he wanted to volunteer. He did. Believe he is one of the rare SAF personnel to be awarded an American Gulf War service medal. He was attached to the US forces in Riyadh. Came under fire from SCUD missiles. Had to operate with NBC clothing and gear. Not easy...

Check the MINDEF website. I believe there are details of the peacekeeping unit that SAF has on readiness. You can see if there are joining instructions !

Yeah , I feel like this too. Sometimes I wish I was back in Singapore and have a chance to train with my unit again. (I'm disrupted and work overseas now).
