White Phosphorous ammunition

I am aware that this is a type of ammo that can make even ammo storemen very nervous and the SOP is to to have water nearby in case of emergencies. These ammo are in a way similar to napalm used in Vietnam are to be used for anti-personnel purposes. The way the men die from these weapons are so terrible,that the Geneva Convention wants to ban it from being used in war(I heard this some where,but i am not very sure on this).I am just wondering if we still have this in our arsenal and if anyone have fired these rounds before. I can only guess the effects of the round on the target at the butt. Very Happy

Well very useful, especially against hole up enemy, u go in to get them u die, just drop one phosphorous genade in and that it.

We do have WP munitions. WP grenades and arti rounds.

Yes, WP grenade is recommended as good for flushing out enemies in bunkers and enclosed spaces. But watch out for secondary fire effects.... in case it is an ammo bunker that you threw the WP in !!! Twisted Evil

WP contains phosphrous .(sorry,today spelling alittle off) it will ignite and spontaneously combust upon contact with any form of water.Be it moisture in the air,water what so ever,so long it contains water.And to treat such burns with even more water will only cause it to be worse.The only thing the water helps with is to burn out the phosphrous faster.Thus water and phosphrous NEVER MIX!!!

White phosphorus is highly unstable and highly flammable. Secondary school chemistry should have shown you that it is kept in oil and it just skips on the surface when place in a basin of water.

Contrary to what you think, White Phosphorous is not banned by any chemical warfare conventions because it is also used for illumination. Hence, the Russians have made us of this loophole and used it against the Chechens.

I don't think it will combust with water..Water is actually needed to stop WP leakage and water is needed for WP burns..

I learnt from my Chem. lessons that Phosphorous will combust upon contact with the surrounding air.As the surrounding air contains moisture,which the phosphrous requires to burn in.Please feel free to add your comments.

This i am not sure...But to what i know and what i have learnt, phosphorous do not combust with water...Water is needed to treat phosphorous burns and stop phosphorous leakage...

WP ammunition is relatively more prone to leakage than regular ammunition and thus very religiously checked. A large can of water is always nearby in case of such occurences, which as far as I know isn't very common in the first place.

WP burns and keeps burning (ie won't burn out for a long time) so the only way to control it is to dunk it in water to cut out the oxygen supply. WP burns on skin are very nasty, you'll know if you've seen Vietnam pictures.

Its also nicknamed Willy Pete (its initials).
