Juz to share with everyone

My computer's modem is having a problem since yesterday. Can fax but cannot connect to the net. Error 678

Gone through the troubleshoot with ISP. Cannot resolve.
Called up Dell. Do all the troublesome test. Cannot resolve.
Dell inform that LAST ALTERNATIVE is to re-format the computer.
LL and stupidly do that. Must call again to install driver.
By then is 6.05, Dell closed for the day.
Call this morning, install drivers, try connect, CANNOT RESOLVE!!!!!! Same error.
Next, Dell techincian called up my ISP. Cannot resolve.
Lastly, finally willing to send their Engineer to my office but only on Mon or Tue.
I requested them to come by today and have to wait for their call.
Waited and waited no one call. Call Dell myself and was informed that they cannot make it. Can come only on Mon.

So.... don't be a fool like me if u think they are wrong. It's unfair that I have to work the long way out instead of them sending the Engineer at site.
All my software gone liao

I regretted using Dell as well. Within 1 and a half years, my video card broke down. And now, whenever I play any video, my monitor will blink and sometimes, it'll hang. Not only, I was cheated, my dad's been cheated as well.

DELL SUX!!!

You know why they suck? Because they're always advertizing! Mad

dork3d SG

That's the Dell culture and service... They beg you to buy their products and you've got to beg them for their service... A bit sucky, right?

For me, me rather pay more for more established brands like IBM Lenovo ThinkPad, HP Compaq...

Sony FTW!

I don't know how exactly Dell works, but hope this website will help you get some answers and solutions.

It is not unfair. Its called cost cutting. Other pc makers also practise that. To put it simply, what you pay is what you get. I've owned computers from all the big makers, HP/Compaq, IBM/Lenovo, Gateway, Acer, Fujitsu, Toshiba and they are all the same. Smile

I believe thats a very poor misconception. You mean other PC makers don't advertise? Dell can afford to sell you cheaper because of disintermediation. With that savings, some of it will definitely go into advertising. This has nothing to do with the PC itself being sucky. Very Happy

Actually I had a problem with my HDD, it failed, and with the 3 yr warranty extension that I added on, it paid itself off.. So I like dell.. They gave me a new HDD for the one tt died =)

You sure they all do the same?

I never have problem with my Mac, so Apple's computer service i dun know.

Whenever I have problem with my Acer desktop, I could solve them by calling the helpline. Well, maybe I could understand instructions better than the threadstarter.

Called HP coz the AMD chip in my compaq overheats, and later they even volunteered to call me to fix a date for the repair.

That's one way of perception.

But from my view, if some people keeps advertizing their products, it goes to show that their sales aren't good enough or their products are not very popular with the masses here.

I bought my Dell desktop for close to 3K. Cheap? Or cheated? Laughing

Within one and a half years, my video card broke down all of a sudden.

Good computer? I beg to differ.

Mine is Alienware, wheeeee... But costly buy 1 alienware laptop could have bought 3 IBM thinkpad instead. A year after I bought it, Dell has acquired Alienware. So far so good, I'm lovin' it!

First of all, only bad products advertise is a total generalization.

Have you been to the states? Seen how ofter iPod is being advertised there? Dell is like nothing compared to it. And Apple spent big money on their advertisements too. But wait a minute, hasn't iPod already got a close to 80% of the markets there already?

3K? Well it depends on when you buy it. A computer which cost 2.5k a few months ago can cost as low as 1.5k in the next month or two, as Vista is going to hit the market soon and its the end of year sales. There is no cheated or not, you just blame yourself for not understanding the market situation.

Problem with graphic card? Most brands of graphic cards do have a very strict quality control. They don't just broke down all of a sudden, most cases are due to bad usage over a long period of time.

Also, I don't think Dell puts their own graphic cards in their computer, or they don't even produce it at all. Usually its ATI or Nvidia. So blaming Dell here seems to be very senseless.

I definately do not support Dell. Also, I do not say they produce good or bad computers coz I don't have a Dell. Lastly, who owns a computer yet nv have a single problem with it?

Maybe you are lucky, I always get excuses when I call any of the computer companies. I am pleasently surprised that HP's customer service has improved so much. Used to work there a couple of years back and it was a pain in the ass even trying to get my own helpdesk to fix my pc. Mr. Green

I agree with you on this.

Go here

Download the utility and run it. It will recover your files. Try the first program, TestDisk. Don't download this to the HardDisk you want to recover, use a floppy or another HardDisk. Don't write anything to your HardDisk.

Such an easy problem to solve.

Dont say Uncle never teach you.

It doesn't mean if you advertise a product, it means your sales are bad.

Advertising serve 2 purposes: improve sales or tell consumers of new products.

In the case of Dell, its main purpose is to improve sales, as with a lot of companies who advertised their products.

Compare Dell with Apple. Apple advertises as well, but is Apple unpopular with the users? The answer is no.

Whether a computer lasts, it's mostly due to the users. Users who maintain it well can make it last for as long as they like. Those who play games, overclock, change this and that setting, will spoil it sooner or later, as QC tests are done based on default values in a certain environment.

If you are not the kind who abuse the PC, and it breaks down, you are just unlucky.

NB....dun scare me leh...i juz ordered a DELL.... @#!#$%^$%^&&(*)&)_*)(+_

nightzip SG

yup...but seriously, DELL doesnt fit my purposes, there low-end graphics card, makes rendering of CAD graphics super slow and even memory out! even when i have 4gb memory installed.

Also on average my NUS office's DELL's PCs dun work longer than 3 years...think reliability is a problem. So always like dong bu dong have to call Dell support like that.

I not saying Dell not good...all their stuff are from OEMs, chip set, mobo, cards, drives etc...but their system design, like the casing design, fan location, heat dissipation, etc...lousy design so that products does not last that long...but they cheap...for mid end users maybe. Laughing

Dell no good. use it for ex-company. problems with their docking station for latidute notebooks. no power to powerup up simple palm pda devices. even when connect to ac power source. i nv had problem with other brands. used to use a inspiron 510m but lucky get to change to Fujitsu S series. Now so good much much better than the stupid dell. dell use cheap parts to make their computers, no wonder the price so cheap. louya dun buy dell. do it at your risk. esp. home range. but pda range is okay. Razz

Hotlines are for users who encountered problem but has certain knowledge in solving it. For those who did know know anything about the problem they are having, it is terribly hard for support over the phone! In this case, you should wait for their engineer, or if possible, bring your computer over to them.

Well, I do not know about Dell, but for all my other pc, installing drivers is as simple as putting in the Driver Disc and click 'Next'. Oh yes, and wait.

Heard of the word backup? Leaving everything in just 1 computer seemes foolish nowadays, especially if you are with Windows.

And finally, problems with network connections does not necessarily has something to do with your computer alone. There are lots of other factors.
