First take simple measures to improve your "sleep hygiene"
1. Associate your bedroom with sleep only - ie, don't do calculus
homework on it just before you want to knock off.
2. Make sure it is comfortable, quiet, lights down, relaxing,
air-con, etc .... associated with sleeping
3. you will need to think if you have any underlyign stresses in
your life, new gf, old gf, no gf, work no good, work too good (ie
to much), no work, and then counsel yourself - BOH PIAN just
improve your life OK?? Don't think too much then and SLEEP.
4. Eating a lot does make one sleepy and that's physiologic but
wouldn't recommend it if you have an underlying physical or mental
issue that needs to be dealth with.
5. Medications including alcohol can help but although they improve
sleep latency (ie. time to fall asleep), the sleep they induced is
not a good kind of sleep, so you may not feel rested even when you
have "slept"
6. Moreover, many of these are habit forming. Short-term use, say a
week to help overcome a stressor (like CPF pay cut) will help, but
longer-term use like need a few more days when you also find out
medisave don't pay for it, is not good.
7. If all else kinda of fails, I find that (for me) reading the
latest edition of TEXTBOOK of something knocks me into bo-chap land
straight away.
