But damn, i want to go back.
Even if i rot in a cubicle for the rest of my life, i want to be among *them*.

So is there any recourse for a guy who was C1L2 for most of my service, got upgraded to B near my ORD, and has a Good report on my Certificate of Service?

I failed my CCC. I want the NS life again.

and considered which vocation, service, etc you wanna go back to?

there's nothing wrong with this choice btw. i made the same choice too. and i think i have made the right choice. Wink

u might try DXO... but some DXO appointments are open only for honours degee, great results from 'o' levels onwards and fantastic ECA achievements...

since the economic downturn, pple have been literally RUNNING to them... fresh grads, grads with work exp, POST grads, etc etc etc...

AND there's the ABSD test... that one is the most bo liao and possibly the most difficult i think... cos if ur personality or aptitude not there, they won't even consider.

if after serious consideration u think the military is the right profession for you then you are indeed welcomed to join us!

make a trip to arc. im sure they will be glad to sign you up. but know what vocations, schemes and all that first - at least be aware of your options. this is afterall a career choice.

As there is Basic Military Training to convert a civilian into a soldier, there is an unofficial Civilian Conversion Course to reverse that process.

Amongst NSF, it's usually less duties and more offs to get you readjusted.

I know exactly what you feel.

After my NSF, I wanted to sign on cos there was a recession and adjusting to the "disorder" of civilian life for some can be just as difficult as adjusting to army life for others.

But my Bde S2 set me right. He said that you should only sign on if you are/will become an officer and have a good prospect of climbing.

Those days, NCO's who sign on can get booted out pretty early - unlike officers.

I knew a lot of regular NCOs who got booted out of the army around the time they were 30 years old. WTH are you going to do then? So used to ordering people around and no real skills, you're gonna have an even harder time adjusting to civi life at 30.

2 words: Job Satisfaction... find something u kinda like to do... u may not make a LOT of money, but most of us don't when we start out anyway... what's important is to gain some experience and keep moving on to better things.

in there, there's practically nothing to look forward to... except war maybe... but if its blood and gore u're looking for, let me assure u... there's plenty of that in any shenton way office as well...

its odd.

you are telling him to find something he likes to do so as to derive job satisfaction.

but you are discouraging him from signing on even though he has expressed interest in soldiering as a career.

clearly your advise to him is not objective and is heavily coloured by your personal experiences and prejudices against the profession.

hence you would rather he look for blood and gore in office politics that he may not be interested in, than the real blood and gore he may have to face in being a soldier.

In which sentence did Johnston said he "liked" soldiering? Some people genuinely love soldiering. Love having a weapon in hand, love the adventure, patriotism etc.

All I hear is he is finding it hard to adjust to civilian life that's why he's longing to go back to the comforting womb of SAF.

That's is such a wrong reason for signing on. At least if he should give civi life a brave attempt and if he really hates it then go back to the Army.

i didn't hear him say that he "liked soldiering" ... i merely heard him say that he is unable to adjust and prefers to be in there... where life is regimented, structured and predictable...

it smells like escapism to me and its never a good reason to sign away your whole life like that.

i enjoyed my NS life... but to ask me to give up my life out here now and go back there? no way... its a great experience, but a lousy career choice...

a period of adjustment is needed to get back in tune with civillian life... i feel that it is not recommended to run back and sign on just because u can't handle it out here...

and just what do u know about "unstructured civillian life" ?

civillian life is what u make of it... u can choose to be a slob, or u can choose to be disciplined and a neat freak...

i don't know many effective work places that actually allows u to be unstructured and ill disciplined... many corporate enviornments are operated with military efficiency... THAT's what makes the world go round... THAT's where the satisfaction and the money is.
