Close quarters combat or melee combat in the military

What sort of close combat/melee combat systems are used in the SAF?Is there any particular combat system or martial art that is used by us,such as the IDF which uses Krav Maga as its standard combat system?

Lastly, what is the purpose of the Guards formation, their mission objectives and role?I heard that they serve a role similar to US Army Rangers and USMC combined and that they are considered elite infantry,1 level below Commandos.

btw,nice site found at http://www.specialoperations.com/

SAF emphasizes more on unarmed combat than any specific martial art. That said, I think its relevant head branch at the School of Physical Training has some ties with the taekwondo community outside. Boxing is also a standard sport for some Formations, like Armour & OCS.

GDS are aka rapid-deployment forces in local parlance, trained for both airmobile/heliborne & amphibious ops. That's all I can reveal.
