Whats the danger of tailgating?

I'v seen ppl driving at very slow speed using the FAST lane and when i overtake them the stare at me and i was like wtf??!! u take fast lane drive so slow still dare 2 stare at me

Need to check the speed limit. Since TP already said driving on lane 1 at near speed limit isn't road hogging, so that guy might not be wrong. If you want to overtake them, just go and be quick about it. I usually don't look at the driver, just concentrate and overtake him. Thanks to these drivers, I always enjoying eating big cars.

Which part again? Too slow? Too dangerous? Or the tapping brake part? I tap brake without slowing down lah! Just touch a little to ask the tailgater to back off. Of course if there is no car infront of me, I will definitely give way. Though this havn't happened to me yet, my speed is usually limited by the 1 in front.

Anyway, I gave up long ago about tailgating. Found out, the hard way, that without ABS, jam brake super dangerous.

Haven't drive 1 with ABS before, but it is suppose to get you to stop more efficiently right? Anyway, should be nice to be around in case of un-expected cases.

When did the TP ever say that? An overtaking lane is to be used for overtaking only and yielded to faster moving vehicles.

Doesn't mean you're doing 90 in the overtaking lane of a 90 zone, or even an 80 zone, you're not road hogging.

As long as there are cars behind you trying to get by and you're not getting out of their way when you're in the OVERTAKING lane, then you're road hogging.

Actually that can also apply to other lanes, not just the over taking lane. If you see the vehicle in front of you steadily pulling away, the vehicles to the left of you aren't travelling significantly slower than your own speed, and there's a long line of cars jammed up behind you, then chances are, yes! You are road hogging.

cars ARE supposed to overtake within the speed limits of the roads.

but normally right most lanes are for overtaking, if you feel the car infront of you slow you can overtake from the left and go back right again mah. simple right?

That's not always possible. You imagine the guy in front of you travelling at the same speed as the car on the lane to the left... He could always pull left to give way, but you can't overtake on the left.

Anyway, that's precisely the kind of thinking that causes accidents and traffic jams - other people should drive around me!! I will not give way to others even if I am road-hogging!

Road-hogging though is an offence, will not cause accident.

Tailgating vehicles are vulnerable to accidents, they are pushing their lucks

hmm.. i hope when you say very slow speed you dont mean speeds like 90-100 kmh. everyone has equal rights to the road, and so long as the person is driving to the speed limit he should not be considered road hogging (although in reality this may not be so).

I wasnt travelling that fast...i was only doing 60 and that fella was doing 40....just like me also on P-plate

Try sending your argument to the TP web site, they will tell you otherwise. Cause someone already did that. Bottomline, you speed, you are wrong and in danger to the public roaf users. No reason like you are overtaking is going to save you from the TPss.

However, that guy didn't mail the TP the question of how slow is road hogging. Maybe can try to ask, but please don't assume your own reasoning. Law ain't make by you, or enforce by you.

Never saw anyone who drive 40km/h on the right most lane of a expressway before. Unless it is a Jam, otherwise maybe can high beam him just as a reminder.

But if in city or town driving, 40km/h is normal in some cases when he is approaching a right turn. Do wait it out before jumping to conclusions. Can't expect everyone's guts to be the same size. Smile

Heard from a friend, oversea high beam people means you are giving way. Somehow in Singapore, it is the other way round. Neutral

That's taken from the UK highway code, which is what our highway code is based on.

I've lived, and driven, in several countries where I've had to take and retake my highway code so many times as I move from place to place... and the keep left (or right, depending on where I'm taking the test) rule is always brought up.

So no, it is not my definition.

I'm not arguing that you can "overtake" at 200km/h... I'm just stating that there is no excuse to keep in the overtaking lane when there are other cars behind you trying to get by.

if im on the first lane and im already travelling at 100 or more, and someone still chooses to tailgate me, i will give two hoots about him/her. in fact, i will slow down to frustrate the bugger even more. then when he/she wants to overtake from the left, i will speed up to catch up with the car already on the left lane infront of the bugger, and then slow down to this car's speed, so the bugger will end up having to come back to my lane again, behind me. that's how i punish tailgaters, and i njoy doing it! Twisted Evil im teaching them to stick to the speed limit!

if the person had not tailgated me, but instead, stayed at a good distance behind, but signalled to me that he/she wishes to go through (for whatever reasons, i have no idea, esp if i am already like 10+ kmh above speed limit), i will give way. but if he/she chooses to tailgate, he/she can forget about me giving way!

aiyo..what for wasting energy to play game with losers who tailgate?? i don't even bother to check my rear mirror, all i'm concerned is that i'm abiding by the speed limit (that is i won't go beyond 90km/h on lane 1). I don't even care who's tailgating behind me, cos those buggers who tailgate me don't deserve my attention, if they ever dare to kiss my bum, then....anyway, god bless those tailgaters...

dun tink it is a gd idea. even u driving at 150 on the first lane , u sld also give way when there is space on the second lane. and it does not matter wat car u driving. ferrari also has to give way if the car behind want to go faster and u dun plan to drive faster. NS highway is alwis like dat and i feel it safe.
by the way how to signal to the car in front to give way? sometime i give a frenly horn but the bugger slow down.

this kind of driver need to be shot in the head...

the rule of thumb is that drive accordingly to the flow of traffic..if the flow of traffic is at 100, drive at 100. if it is at 80, u oso have to lan lan suck thumb...
