wuming78 SG airborne? ranger course? i thought that is possible (c.f. nsf commandos) ? but the priority for nsf is so low that it becomes almost nonevent.
ditzy SG I think he means if there is any way an NSF can go for the above. Actually can, provided there are vacancies for the NSF, but priority still goes to the regulars. Unless you want to be special.
wuming78 SG yah.. that was what i meant - it is possible, except the priority for nsf is so low it becomes almost impossible.
Obersturmfuhrer SG BAC is basically off-limits for NSF (except commandos and certain Naval divers). The selection is more for regulars who require a confidence badge to get promoted. The best bet is to get in is the be either a commando, SAF regular or NCC. As far as I know, you can volunteer to take on the Ranger course if you’re an NSF. Just that so far only one person is crazy enough to attempt that (and he passed as well).
quivalen SG confirmed: nsfs are allowed to apply for ranger course again, starting with the coming one somewhere in the next few months. in fact my (nsf) pc is going. btw, afaik, i don't think nsf divers go for bac. regulars yes, but i don't think nsfs do.
John Ching SG You can go for RANGER course even when you've ORD. Its a volunteer course, except that you have to be a combat fighter by vocation of whatever unit. If you are NSF, you still can go for it. Just extend your service by 6 months. But you must at least be a specialist in rank.
Master -_- SG For a moment, i thought Basic Assault Course... Commandos and even Infantry SLs i have seen got that badge ... My wing got 2 Commandos and he told me that during his training, got one MSG going for his Master Freefall badge... he got the airborne badge with a yellow backing.. dunno what that was... and by the way, whats the difference between a ranger tab with yellow, red and camou backing?
lion02 SG one must pass airborne to be a commando. no commando wears a red beret without earning his airborne badge first.
lion02 SG yellow backing airborne badge = jump-master red backing airborne badge = commando parachutist black backing airborne badge = diver parachutist airborne badge w/o backing = normal parachutist red ranger tab = singapore ranger trained yellow ranger tab = us ranger trained
Obersturmfuhrer SG BAC is basically off-limits for NSF (except commandos... Read the full sentence, dun skim. lion02, i think the diver's backing was changed to blue. I overheard "Destroyer" telling the divers I took the course with that their backing would be blue.
quivalen SG there's no such thing as a "master freefall" course. a master freefaller is merely someone who's done the requisite number of freefall jumps (somewhere around 25 for master, iirc. i think i saw it somewhere recently; i'll try and check). unless you mean the advanced military freefall course. for freefall, there's only that and the military freefall course. the yellow backing means he's an instructor ( not a jumpmaster as someone said ). jumpmasters don't have any special distinction on their badges. red ranger = singapore ranger course yellow = us ranger the camo ranger badges are the same for both local and us courses, difference being that for both no.3 and no.4 badges, the us ranger tab is worn on the right sleeve while the local ranger tab is on the left sleeve (same as for foreign badges).
quivalen SG to expound on that a little the difference between a 'normal' parachutist and a commando parachutist is that commandos ( and divers too ) go for module II of the bac which is the combat load phase. 'normal' parachutists are only trained to jump in clean fatigues - hence there isn't really any practical reason for them to undergo the course except to fulfill the confidence course requirement for regs. the red backing actually denotes the combat-load phase; but since generally only commandos do that, its akin to being a 'commando parachutist'.
lion02 SG divers also goes for equipment jump (as what u mentioned as combat-load phase), but their backing is not red. their's was black during my time, was changed to blue as someone here mentioned. there're some gaurds unit guys also goes for what u mention as combat-load phase (we call it equipment jump, combat jump means real operation jump)and keep his currency, but wears the wing without any backing.
