without a proper image, ppl will continue to think of the worst of buddhism and i know this becos i once thought buddhism was dull and lame until i met AEN on irc. so i think i should let all of singapore know that buddhism isnt just burning paper and praying for fortune

Precisely. currently, there is a whole lot of "quantity" buddhist in singapore with no "quality". i wish to make it a more "quality" singapore by telling ppl they are not buddhists and to re-discover what really is buddhism if they wish to.

Essentially, 'Chinese religions' are made up of Buddhism, Taoism and folk tradition/practices.

Some do mix, yeap.

But, as a Buddhist, you shouldnt be receiving angpows for CNY coz CNY is born out of folk tradition.

if ppl entered buddhism with the wrong thinking about buddhism then they are not really buddhist. like that might as well disband buddhism since everyone is just burning paper and stuff.

it is my personal wish to see buddhism become more popular in singapore.

I focus too much on appearance? do most people who burn paper even know what real buddhism is all about? even right here we have spidee who was more suprised than ever before when he found out that he wasnt really buddhist.
