Defending doesn't mean that you have to die for it.

Constructing a building doesn't mean the workers gets killed coz of accidents, we stop all the work and abandon the construction.

Why we really do have NS is due to deterrence effect. Its part of Nation building and to be able to mobilise an effective Nation to come to the Nation's Defence and building this needs people.

We cannot own our home unless we are responsible for it .
$$$ cannot buy you a Nation. It buys you the house but the people in it needs you to be responsible for them.

I sympathise with those who went thru tough training and cannot take it.

But if I have a son, I will want him to serve NS. Yes, it is tough and to some extent dangerous. But it does teach useful stuff that I may not be able to teach like surviving skills, discipline, physical fitness etc.

Somemore got allowance. ... Govt pay your son/bro to train him something.

The whole problem with Singapore is that those who doesn't have to defend Singapore gets the bread and leaves the crumps to those that have to chase the Wolves away.
