On 8 December, 1943, the Japanese announced that Local Volunteer
Units Giyutai and Giyugun would be formed for local
defence.
The Giyu-tai was to help to maintain peace and order, and in the
defence of their respective localities.
The Giyugun were regular soldiers and would fight anywhere in
Singapore and Malaya.
Even earlier than this, Gunpo (Auxiliary Servicemen) and Heiho
(Regular Army Auxiliaries) were recruited. These were, however,
only attached to the Imperial Forces to assist them.
The Syonan Sinbun often reports that youth rushed to join these
services. This was true. Most of the recruits were Malays.
The Indians joined the INA led by Chrandra Bose-so as to fight for
Indian Independance under the leadership of Japan
The Chinese also had their share of collaborators: eg: the supreme
leader of the MPAJA resistance forces, one Lai Teck, was actually a
Japanese spy. He betrayed the whole resistance leadership to the
Japanese.
The great hero Lim Bo Seng=how do you think he was caught and
killed?
Because he was BETRAYED by his Chinese comrades........
...........so our history is not as glorious as we thought
