To foil the human eye basically. The CADPAT (Canadian version) was the first in digital camo actually. The little pixels, in various sizes and colours, is actually quite confusing to our eyes at abt 100 metres, if I remember. This is because we cannot process the images properly, owing to the constant break in colours. Whereas for our no. 4, we are able to discern the leafy stripes after awhile... Mr. Green

Btw there are other colours and shades(well at least the marines and candians do)....this 1 shld be for urban fighting...

From what I understand - the US army will adopt only one camo pattern for all environments.

True, but might wanna distinguish "pattern" and "colour".....you can have a digital pattern of our existing No. 4 in different colours for different environment (jungle, desert, artic, etc.)
