Ok,another touchy topic here.Well,personnal feelings here.The
Combat Survial Course is extremely important for all our servicemen
and women. Why?Simply because it gives and insight to the
servicemena and women and insight to the hush and brutal ways when
they are caught and made POWs.Though some may argue that there is
the Geneva convention which protects POWs,yes I agree, but who
follows them?Americans and Brits in Iraq sure don't.No matter how
many human rights crap they have. And the Afghan POWs locked away in
Guantamo Bay and many other unknown places the worldover.Who knows
how much torture and how many rules of the Geneva Convention they
have flouted.
And if I'm not wrong the CSC is not yet placed back in action
yet.Why are we Singaporeans so naive?A death of a serviceman is
regrettable. And it is also painful for their parents and many
others around them. The nation reacts in our usual Kiasu manner. And
slam the government. The death of one serviceman may save so many
others who are put through the CSC conducted by the SAF when in
times of crisis.Man becomes plain savages in war.And do many
unexplainable things that we may not usually do in our day and age
of civilistation.Look at the SAS in Britian and the way the
Israelis SF and infantry are trained.I belief that their numbers
killed in training are far higher then what we have experienced. But
yet,it goes on.Why?Simply because such courses are meant to push
the individuals limits and simulate war conditions. In training,it
is only 70-80%,but in combat, the realism can go up to 150%++.The
purpose is such that the instructors puh the trainess as close to
the nature of war as possible so that they will not be stunned when
it happens.
Although I am all for the CSC,it doesn't mean that the SAF can be
neglect the way they conduct such courses. To be really frank,I have
a colleague in CDO and he told me a stunning truth bout the CSC.Its
alittle sensitive,if you guys wanna know, please PM me.Thanks.
