Taiwan speaks hokkien coz they are very near Fujian.
Hong Kong speaks cantonese coz they are very near Guangdong.
Penang speaks hokkien coz majority migrate there from Fujian.
KL and rest of Malaysia speaks cantonese.
Singapore speaks hokkien mainly coz majority from Fujian. with the
rest speaking teochew, cantonese, hainanese, hakka and so on.
if singapore hadn't restrict the use of dialects in media
(especially cantonese in hong kong shows dat we constantly
watches), we would definitely have closer relations with our
dialect heritage. holidays trips to Hong Kong, Taiwan, KL, Penang
would be further fufilling.
