This show was shot in the 70s. Its already very difficult to get moveable Shermans. How could they stage those battle at Al Quettar? So they turn to the Spanish army and use their Patton tanks. By the way. the advisor of this film is Bradley. He hates and despises Patton. So some facts of Patton were omitted and Bradley glorified his own character in the movie. Those people who wanted to know more about Patton should read "War As I Knew It by General Patton" and "A Genius For War by Carlo D'Este". The first one is his war diary.

No lah, the germans were using M47 as their tanks. In the movie battle of the bulge, they were using M47s as Royal Tigers.Man, wish they cold get one of those tigers from those tank museums. From what i see, the Americans were using super shermans and M24s. Not the M4A1 , M4A2.

Then how come the later ones of Saving Private Ryan & Band of Borthers they actually bothered to remake scratch-built Tigers/ Stug 3s, Jagdpanthers, Hanomags, 20mm Flak, Marder 1, Shermans and even Cruiser tanks ? They even had a Kettlengrad

Everything is about money. No money no talk. And also the tanks in the films you talk about mostly were used for traversing easy terrains. So their engine need not be that powerful. Enough to do some tricks are enough. Besides, what's a few hundred thousand or million dollar tank to Hollywood these days? The show with one of the most ancient tanks is "A Bridge Too Far". But they are mostly used on roads and they aren't tanks (mostly) but Volkwagen with plastic Sherman chassis. But they do have some Panthers or whatever they are.

err....ya they were mostly tractorers with plating to give shapes....had 1 or 2 actual tanks though...but that's about it....

its like how they used F5E tigers to represent MiGs in a lot of movies like top gun etc…

They didn't scratchbuilt. The Tigers were modified T-34s, the Stug IIIs in Band of Brothers were modified postwar Jadgpanzer Kanone (the roadwheels are dead giveaways in both cases), the Hanomag, Kettenkrad, 20mm Flak, Marder II/III, Shermans and Cromwells are real running museum pieces loaned for the shows.
