RMA/MAF Mid range SAM program

koxinga SG

Understand that MAF is looking into purchasing a mid range SAM system. Any more information from the recent DSA 2004? I do have some information indicating the Russian and Chinese companies are participating in the tender on top of the usual suspects from Europe.

Wonder when SAF will replace the HAWK. All I-HAWKs have been withdrawn from USMC service and it is basically end of life soon. After the retirement of the Bloodhound, we lost our long range SAM capability and have not replaced it since although the S300 was evaluated.

Sg might has S10 (S300) in secret. Land launch aster30 or 45 is a gd choice for sg consideration in future.
Know that Sg brought Roland systemms France about a years go. Sg use it for the mobile amour air defence. Has it arrived? Anyone saw it in Sg yet?

wkl SG

I didn't know Sg bought Roland. Is it confirm ?
What is the max range of Roland missile ?
Roland is not a new system right ? I thought it has been for 20 years ?
Shall purchase Aster 30, it is advance and max range 120km.

SpecOps87 SG

Why not get Patriot instead?Patriot is proven in combat what. And has a high-hit probability.

Last time I checked,SAF got I-Hawk,RBS 70,Rapier,Mistral and Igla. Not sure if anything else. Can someone post a pic of the Roland?

Also, any idea if only SADA units are equipped with Igla? What about those Infantry units etc..?US Stinger is also quite attractive

The upgraded Roland is called Enhanced Roland M3S. It is being upgraded from Roland 3 with new digital computers and displays, improved digital missile fire control and measures to enhance communications with the SADA air defence control system. Roland VT1 hypervelocity missile has a range of 11KM.
It is just tested early this year, so I think Sg will recive around end of this year. Possiable to replace Rapier for coaster and Amor defence.

Still, even if the Roland is purchased, we lack a mid range SAM system, although RSN's Aster 15 will be of some help.

I also understand that when we bought the Igla, we also got the license production rights along with it. That explains why it appeared on one of the new ST turrets.

For mid range SAMs, it is pretty limited at the moment if you look at the market. Both VL MICA and SLAMMRAM are new systems and the other alternatives would be Russian and Chinese systems. I consider the Patriot and S300 to be long range systems and might be abit of a overkill.

Something in the Buk range and capability would be good.

eurofighter SG

It could also be the crotale NG VT-1. Whatever it might be, it could be the replacement for the rapier and/or a CIWS for the delta frigates.
Anyway i dun think it has been acknowledged by mindef that we have bought this system. THe purchase had been leaked out.

cutebug SG

The Roland purchase was even printed out in ST about a year ago. At first people though it was for the delta frigates but later was comform is a Roland 3 upgrade land system.

Anyone, can comment on the feasibility of having the PAtriot PAC3 for long range Air defence, or even the israeli Arrow system. Very Happy

|-|05| SG

Arrow system bloody big leh....

panzerjager SG

If they want mobile ADA, should either have gotten the Crotale NG or ADATS, higher volume of fire capacity per fire unit. Ultimate could be the Tunguska gun-missile system

Fairyland SG

Why do you need PAC3 or S300 to be land based?

F5S with Python and Sparrow/AMRAAM is a better answer?

Or Delta Frigate with Aster 30?
