That taxi fare hike
LIEBESTRAUM wonders
whether the recent taxi fare hike would mean better service for
commuters in the form of shorter waiting times or more friendly
drivers.
Sharing a recent bad encounter, Liebestraum writes: "I came first in
the taxi queue and the taxi driver chose not to stop for me. That
is really poor service. That's where the price hike is unjustified.
"
But Char Azn feels that
cab fares should not be tied to service standards: "Yes, some of
them definitely need to improve but what else would you really
expect from them? Ask them to piggyback you up to your
apartment?"

Movie hall of shame
THE historic Capitol Theatre was once Singapore's grand dame of
cinemas. The colonial-style building in the City Hall area closed
its doors in 1998. Singaporeans are outraged that the 76-year-old
building they deem a national heritage is falling into
neglect.
Readymade writes: "I was
particularly impressed by the large representation of the zodiac on
the auditorium ceiling, less so by the stylised wall-mounted
sculptures of horses and riders on either side of the screen -- all
relics from an era when going to movies was an experience."
Strangeknight agrees:
"Something should be done before we lose yet another part of our
history."
