Translated Accounts of Russian PBIs and others!!!

I was surfing looking for more details about Russian Armoured Vehicles of WWII and found this site.

I've been reading up the personal accounts since and have been totally immersed. Their accounts are very human and project an universal empathy that is oft overlooked in scholarly academics.

I also think that the "Thin Red Line" to be a better production than "Saving Private Ryan".

Thanks for the link, especially the part about the female snipers and the Il-2 pilot.

Thin Red Line was overall a total bore. For a better war movie I totally recommend "Das Boot" (The Boat) German WW2 submarine flick or "12 O'Clock High" with Greg Peck (B&W film).

Totally bad war movies include U-571, Pearl Harbor, Midway and assorted other execrable material.

how can you leave out the longest day!!!

Longest Day was a bit over the top for me, but good fun nonetheless. For a historical war movie, I'd recommend "Tora!Tora!Tora!". The beginning is a little slow, but the build-up to the attack is great. I especially like the small little part where the Jap pilots practiced ship recognition and practicing bombing via simulation on board the carriers.

Oh, and of course get the "Band of Brothers" boxed set DVDs if you can.
