the ones we have are more for training purpose as spore is very new to submarines...since 1994... so we need to procure those for training ... now we are still learning abt underwater warfare... till we mature in that...we will hav to delay a bit, but sure the plan is there Very Happy ... oops...wonder if MSD willl come ask mi go lim kopi or not???

About submarine movies

The sonar displays depicted in these shows are grossly inaccurate.For those old birds such as me will know that the sonar station in modern SSNs is not like a radar screen picking up blips. Rather, it is a waterfall display with each sonar contact depicted by lines running vertically down the console In Crimson Tide, the sonar screen is like those radar screens used on land.I guess it is to cater to those novices watching the show...At least they will understand what it is.

dun worry sgboy, i'm sure that's a de-classified news.
the way i see it, the subs were purchased as part of an pre emptive attempt to malaysia's own sub plans( back then) and also to counter thailand's mini aircraft carrier. now since malaysia's submarine's programme has gone full blown , i jus wonder what's next for RSN?

I read in some coffee table book that all(actually two) Sjoormen subs uses CSU 83/ CSU 90 Atlas sonars with integrated consoles.

That's not the latest but not too bad either.

I assume RSN has upgraded all to same standard judging by the size of the VO I saw posted on the builders website.

can be found in Borders' US military history section. got many errie photos and account of submarine disasters. each time i read i get emotionally stirred, almost suffocating as if you were inside in the trapped sub. very very good.

Typhoon..? Is that a russian sub? I only know of the Ohio class aka Trident sub in the US navy.

25,000 tons displacement.20 SSN-20s SLBMs.Have not been keeping up with such things,so the Russian Navy still has these monsters?
