You have to see what you really want to do and be creative in looking for the right job for yourself in the future…I have to go now.

Hey guys, recently, I got accepted to Hospitality and Hotel Management in Republic Polytechnic and I was wondering should I accept it?

I've seen the career aspects stated on their website

Are these jobs good? How much do they make a month or maybe a year?

Other than these jobs mentioned above, are there any other jobs that are available for me if I were to take on this course?

Thank you so much!

Hello Tellyouican321. Do you like serving people besides meeting people. Is this your passion? Do you like shift works?

Tellyouican321 SG

I don't mind serving people as long as it make them happy inside. Meeting people is a plus in my opinion. Well, I don't really have passion for this but I like to work in a hotel as it seems fun.

What do you mean by shift works?

zulkifli mahmood SG

Ok good. You will know about the job scopes when you go for ojt or internship with any of the hotels in Singapore. You probably have to work on 3 shifts or sometimes 2 shifts. 3 shifts means 7am-3pm or 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am, 8 hrs per day.

Tellyouican321 SG

Haha well I don't mind that :) Are you working in a hotel by the way?

Good. I wish you all the best and I hope you enjoy working in the hotel line. No but I have many good close friends working in the hotel industry before.

Thank you! May I know what are their positions in thte hotel? Also, do they enjoy working in hotel?

General Manager, Front Desk, Waiter/Waitress, Room Attendant.

Tellyouican321 SG

Do all of them have a diploma?

zulkifli mahmood SG

Do all of them have a diploma?

The GM, a degree holder. The Front Desk, 'A' Level. The Waiter/Waitress/Room Attendant...'O' Level. The GM still in hotel line...the rest left. After marriage they want to spend more time with their family...one of them the waiter now in IT as computer programmer. The waitress and room attendant in other career.

'After marriage they want to spend more time with their family' - why so? Is it because of the shift?

Correct. They value their weekends.

Tellyouican321 SG

Do you mind explaining the shift thing again? I know that I'll be required to work for 8 hours a day.

But is it a 5 day work week or SOMETIMES I'd have to work on the weekend?

It depends on the hotel policy...some 5 days but off days not always on weekends. Some 6 days...one day off.

zulkifli mahmood SG

Tellyouican321, have you ever experience working life before? Service Industry is like that.

Tellyouican321 SG

Are there any hotels that have 5 day work week and 2 off days at weekend?

zulkifli mahmood SG

Base on the above positions that you have mentioned, you have to hunt for it…but hardly unless you work in the admin.

Tellyouican321 SG

Do you have any idea how much do they earn?
