I didnt know so many people are crying for the blood of SYFC students. Smile

What I do know is that there was supposed to be a simulator but it has been put off to a later date due to lack of funds.

I do agree that some SYFC people dun have the right attitude-skipping ground lessons, turning up late for flights, dropping out due to heavy workload etc and that's a great waste in taxpapers' money. The selection citheria is not strigent enough., The interview alone wont weed out these black sheeps. But that is not for me nor anyone else but the General Manager and Ops people to decide.

On the RSAF being a flight grading squadron...True, I agree SYFC is some sort of unofficial RSAF squadron but there are many cases where a PPL from SYFC has been chopped while someone with no background on flying can get into RSAF.

I dun know about others, but for me, I have an interest in the field of aviation and i believe that getting into SYFC will further my interest in this subject.

I didnt realise a joke on the KT-1 replacing our piper warriors can turn out this kind of stuff. Very Happy

nonsense, there is 2 other flying clubs in singapore, all u need is $$$. lots of it. or u go johor but its almost the same u pay cos u need to go kl to take ground papers and medical examination, think of airfare and hotel.

anyway i wun waste my time learning in malaysia, no standard one. there was once a singaporean who failed 3 times for spore ppl, caas even convene a board of inquiry to interview him, instructors and examiners to determine what went wrong. caas feels that he did not have the ability to fly and bar him from any flight test anymore, he went over to johor to take his test, one test pass already. i tot maybe spore very strict, later i found out that one of the examiners was lee boon kiong, sia flying college cfi, that man was ok person. he would give chance one but that guy on his second flight test, before even start out to taxi. he declare radio failure to the examiner, turns out that he did not plug his jack into the comms! we pilots always say malaysia anything boleh, f*** up like him also can pass(his instructor now working at YFC somemore). well no malaysian trained pilot, malaysian or singaporean or american... can fly wif me as co pilot, no standard.

Not much info on the upgrade, as mindef thrown a big blanket of security over it, and is best remain that way. But I am sure being Singaporeans, we sure KS and cramp a lot of interesting items inside...

I think the displays have been changed too....color, touchscreen etc saw a pict on a document on the Mindef website.

CEC would be a great add-on but since we are going our own way with the data-link (at least air interface) how practical will it be to integrate considering they won't give you the source code.......maybe in higher OSI layers........IP link to gateways thru SATCOM???

More news from AA04 :

1. SG Navy bought a Submarine rescue submersible (SSRV) from Kockums which will be installed on a leased vessel SS Kendricks together with decompression chamber and the whole works by 2004. SG SSRV will be utilise by friendly nations in this region to rescue any of their sunken subs.

2. Flight Magazine indicates that SG will be looking for a new Military Trainer after SG selection of the NGF. It will replace the TA-A4 based in France ( What about the 30 S211 we have in Australia, can't it be used for this role??? ). Bristish Hawk, MIG-AT130, Aermacchi and Korean T-50 are in the so called running.

3. Mystified by this info in the Weyer Naval Ships of the world - It says that SG is acquiring 4 locally built 1,000ton vessels, length is 100metres.( This got nothing to do with the Deltas and don't know how true it is?). Delivery by 2010.

4. SG Navy has acquired Kockums SAM1 unmanned mine sweepers which will be controlled from the Landsort MCM ( Bedok Class ).

The Bell 609 tilt rotor i was briefed was the military version, which I think will be very ideal for our Navy. It will be only available after Bell fulfilled all the civilian version back orders...say somewhere after 2015.

SG AWACs upgrade undertaken by DSTA was not to the Hawkeye 2000 variant. Ours is 1 generation behind UAE and 2 generation behind the Americans.

SG Army has acquire about 150++ LSVs, it is very unlikely that we will ever have the Spider.

Just as I expected, as I've stated on Page 2 of the NGF sticky thread. Of the old A-4 units, 143 has transitioned to the F-16, 145 will follow soon and 142 will most likely be using the NGF. That leaves the AJT detachment of 150 Sqn which is using the A-4s in the LIFT role.

The S.211s cannot be used, as they are basically basic jet trainers. Performance is too far below a fighter which pilots will have to get used to, this is where the LIFT will come in. LIFT are high performance jet trainers which have real combat capabilities, to train pilots on fast jet operations as well as perform weapons training.

You mentioned Aermacchi, the company builds quite a few aircraft, which particular Aermacchi type? MB.339?

SYFC,...hmmm... well it brought back fond memories of my time in Junior Flying Club ( It was called by that name then ), Our Club house was in Tanglin Road ( Old CMPB). long time ago. I was Sixteen and I was training to Fly first the motorised glider and then to Cesna 172 ( A very simple and easy to fly plane ). Sadly didn't complete my PPL.

I think he was reffering to the Aermacchi M-346.

Tubroprop trainers like the KT-1, as mentioned earlier, will probably replace the S.211.

correct, awst feb 23 issue pg 63, aermacchi is planning to involve singapore companies already.

I dunno about the KT-1 thing, but I've heard noises that basic fast jet training might be "farmed out" to BAe as well, like airgrading in Tamworth. Not too sure about the reliability of those rumours though.

back to the same issue again. i prefer rsaf go for nftc instead, i got the newsletter for 2003 from the nftc chaps at aa2004, 14 rsaf pilots were produced by nftc in 2003, 2 got best in a/a and a/g during the course. with the shortage in manpower, sending them to train on the hawks is not a bad idea. we don't have to maintain it, that save us a big pool of technicians required to service it and we don't have to maintain spare parts for it.

I hear ya cavsg, but I wonder if NFTC would be able to handle training of the RSAFs entire pool of student fighter pilots, along with its regular commitments, if we do drop LIFT from our requirements and go entirely for NFTC. Your thoughts?

well, rather true if those from s.211 are stream to fighter course, nftc may not handle that many but usually the numbers will go down quickly as most dun make the cut after a few lessons. the europeans are setting a similar school,eurotraining, in europe, perhaps both schools can accomadate all our students in future.

I suppose if both schools have a similar syllabus, it might be workable. Then again, does anyone have a ballpark figure how many graduates from S.211s end up as fighter pilot trainees (ie AJT at Cazaux)?
