Finally... *sob* someone recognizes the engineers... I'm so touched.... *breaks down crying.* The AHC is just beside 46SAR cookhouse in SG camp. I didnt kno...

Gedanken SG

Well, going a bit OT here, but if you happen to be in Melbourne after the beginning of next year, let me know and I can take you up to the Australian Army's Armour museum in Puckapunyal - it's open to the public.

Check out their website: http://www.armytankmuseum.com.au/

BTW, that's open to anyone! Very Happy

Viper52 SG

Never been to Puckapunyal myself (wonder why I missed it) in the 4 years I was at Melbourne although I've heard about it. Oh well, I fully intend to go back to Melb sometime in the near future so I could always pop by. Ged you in there for the long term?

Been to the 2 aviation museums in Moorabin and Point Cook though, wonderful memories!

Gedanken SG

Yeah, Viper, I'm in Singapore for the rest of this year, then it's back to Melbourne. I've already got PR status there, and I've got long-term plans with my better half who's Australian.

Hmm - 4 years? Were you studying there, or were you posted?

I've been to the Moorabin museum but not the one at Point Cook. I have to admit that I was surprised at the state of the Mirage at Moorabin - there seemsed to be a helluva lot of patchwork all over the fuselage.

Viper52 SG

Gedanken, lucky you! Am making similar plans as well. Mr. Green

I was studying there for 4 years, 1999-2002. Loved the life there, hence my plans.

The aircraft at Moorabin are not as well maintained as those at Point Cook, theres another Mirage there thats in a much more pristine condition, as well as lots of other interesting stuff.

Gedanken SG

Right on, Viper!

When you get there, we'll have to grab a mate of mine and head up to Puka - he's an ex-Oz infantryman and an armour nut. I'll have to check out Point Cook too!

Viper52 SG

I'll hold you to that invitation mate! Another reason to go back to Melbourne again, now if only I have the money for it! Crying or Very sad

Which part of Melbourne did/do you stay in? My pad used to be in Southbank (next to Crown...good thing I'm not a habitual gambler) then I moved to Little Lonsdale St in the city (great view of Port Philip Bay)

Gedanken SG

Ow! That's expensive real estate, Viper!

I stayed in Hawthorn for 3 years, then spent the other 7 in Brunswick, with a few short stints in Doncaster and Camberwell.

Viper52 SG

Expensive is a relative term isn't it Gedanken? Laughing

Yea, those are not the cheapest places to live in Melbourne (though I can think of more expensive ones!). No choice, my campus is out on the west side of Melbourne...its difficult enough to get there from the city without a car, nevermind trying to get there from Hawthorn, Doncaster et al Confused

10 years in Melbourne? Sounds like something I could do with!

Welcome, sleeping! Always nice to see another Melbournian here! Very Happy If you want to post pics here, you will need to have them based somewhere else on the net first, after which you can place a link in your post.

Viper - West side? You weren't in Foot-a-scray, were you? Hehe - "Megalo, megalo, megalo! Franco Cozzo......" :mrgreen

hihihi

I live in glen weverly for a while before moving to caulfield near neerim road. Cool

will try ur advise n try to post for everyone to share

Viper52 SG

Haha. looks like Melburnians past and present have hijacked this thread Laughing

Welcome sleeping! Yes I did talk about the speciality bookshops in Melbourne (and I don't mean those with the Red X at the sign Mr. Green ), kind of a giveaway about where I've been the past few years huh? How did you like the Worlds Most Liveable City?

Gedanken, no I was not studying at Footscray (the wet market there was really something else though!), my campus was at Port Melbourne, right under the shadow of the West Gate and incidentally across the Yarra from Footscray.

I get very industrial views, and HUGE container ships sailing by 200m from me everyday while there, but there was something wonderful about the sights there!

Gedanken SG

Speaking of institutions like that, I was always amused by the Batman Automotive College! Mr. Green

Viper52 SG

Do they have a module or two dedicated to the Batmobile?

Bad joke, I know... Laughing
