Is it?? I haven seen any M16A1 around in any of the 4-5camps i’ve been stationed before.. I was told tat we have only M16S1 and some AR15s….

Hi all, i have notice that recently there's a lot of discussion abt SAF upcoming equipments. This include purchase for all 3 services, Army, RSAF, RSN. With so much purchases being planned (by us Mr. Green ) n with our annual 6% GDP defense budget. i would like to discuss abt the order of purchase n provide a timeline if possible.

For me i think the next purchase to be announce is the new multi-role Fighter Jet ([email protected]) followed by the Naval Helos(TBA this June?) n finally a replacement for the AMX13 (TBA Year End). However the Army shocked with the announcement of the Primus nothing was heard of it before that therefore i believe it would be the same case for the Tanks.
Just my .002 cents. Comments?

It's good to know but there is very little investment for personal issue equipment for the soldiers.

The issued stuff is not up to par to world conflicts as during the UN missions, the soldiers are issued US GI equipment.

We are still using the M16A1.

Well, there's the SAR 21.
Lotsa units are using them already including Tekong.

Only a few units are using the SAR21/Tavor21 but most went back to the M16A1 for field exercise.

our defense science labs are doing research into this area not unlike wat the US is doing on body armour, computer systems for individual soldiers, etc etc - the advanced combatman.

Yes, generic hydration system but remember the 6% GDP defence budget. It's unit fund and not in the SAF inventory.

According a report dated 09 Jan 04, RAdm Teo who went to France for the launching of RSS Formidable & he annouced that the orders of our new jets and naval helos will be annouced by early next year i.e.2005.

Conceptual... but imagine what we could do with such technology... the moment Malaysia fires their ASTROS II, this missile will be on their butts before they even have the time to pack up and leave. All we have to do is to aquire the target.

I tot the naval helis would be on schedule for contract signing in AA2004? The longer they delay the more attractive the S-92 option becomes.

We’re using M16S1not M16A1. Its the local made variant of the A1.

just thinking....what purpose or even advantage does it have to locate the warhead towards the back of the missile?

i'm not a missile expert but i remember seeing warheads on missiles to be slightly behind or in the middle of the missile...but i noticed that the drawing is towards the back and near to the combustion engines.

That's a very interesting missile. Cruise at hyper sonic.... remember somewhere that there is a mach 7 missile in development.

I suggest to truely transform the way we fight, better forget about the new fighter and invest in UCAV, unman combat air vehicle. It is fruitless to out-g a machine. Besides, since when is aerial war won over dog fight. Its has been long range engagement and UCAV is the way to go.

We are still using the M16A1 manufactured by Colt, some are manufactured by CIS M16S1.

Dun u all think that early 2005 is too late already?
Our frigate SQN would be fully delivered by then. Announce n immediate acquire of Naval helo dun sound really possible.
i still think june 2004 is a good time for the announcement.
BTW wat's S-92?
