Inspired by the quote above. I think it's really time for more
semi-express services to CBP.
Service 164: Yio Chu Kang - Changi Business Park
https://routes.one/idea/573
- Connects AMK, Bishan and Toa Payoh East directly to CBP, Tanah
Merah and Bedok North Ave 3
- Passes through major transfer hubs (AMK Ave 3, Braddell Rd,
Jln Toa Payoh, Jln Kolem Ayer) for commuters from other services
(as far as 966 from Woodlands/BPJ) to CBP
- Relieves load on svc 35 at Xilin Ave
- Enhances connectivity for Toa Payoh East (the part where 57
plies)
- Relieves load on svc 50 from AMK Ave 8 to Bishan MRT
- If necessary, can be made peak-hour service
Some considerations:
- For AMK side, can be amended to serve some of the new BTOs
along Ave 1. Can even be partially merged with the rumoured service
71 if need be.
- Can consider serving Bedok North Ave 4 area instead of Tanah
Merah MRT (seeing that there is less need for it given DTL3)
- Changi South Ave 3 to Xilin is closed for DTL3e works.
- Route is somewhat long overall, and there may not be enough
"express" elements to sway many commuters from CBP (if they still
prefer existing premium services).
Aside those, route is quite good. I like the links from AMK and
Toa Payoh to Bishan MRT as well as Geylang Bahru MRT (on the PIE).
Can serve as a good relief to some areas during NSL
disruptions.
================================
IMO a good alternative could be
via Braddell Rd / Bartley Rd East directly to Bedok North Rd /
Bedok Reservoir Rd / PIE / Simei Ave / Xilin Ave / CBP. Skips Toa
Payoh and Bedok, but gives a much faster route to Bishan to allow
for transfers.
