Study? SG

I just graduated from poly and I am currently working. I am happy with my job and pay. Though no one forces me to further my studies, I can feel the “pressure” society puts on furthering education. I am really happy with a normal life. Everyone is talking about going for a degree but I am not really interested in it. I can’t imagine spending the next 3 or 4 years struggling just to get a degree. But somehow deep inside I feel like I am missing out if I do not get a degree. What is your point of view?

uni is a 3/4 year commitment assuming U do it locally...dun do it if U dun really want it...U wouldnt last long...poly syllabus and uni syllabus very different...so dun take ur poly mentality and think that U can "smoke" out another few years...I tell U....no way. Rolling Eyes

If you are happy, then don't make yourself miserable.

If you think money is adequate for yourself then don't do it.

However, if you intend to have more of the trappings in life, and wish to provide more than the basics for children you have or intend to have, you will need big bucks.

Over a lifetime, (using historical data) degree holders will make more money in the end than non-degree holders.

Money isn't eveything but it does solve a lot of problems ... ...

i find degree is more for higher positions in your com... if u r happy with your job n $$$ then stick to it cos u might not get it again... the money u spend on study Uni is not cheap so tat amount u used can be used to pay for luxury stuff liao.... like wat was said, if u want more $$$ on the long run then go for Uni or if u sian of your current job then take up Uni......

I never like to study since young. I just study and work for the sake having a normal comfortable job. I have no dreams becos I dun believe in dreams. I am just happy with a comfortable life and salary.I dun need to stay in a condo nor drive a bmw though I dun mind but I wun slog 16hrs a day just to live such a lifestyle.I dun see such things as necessary cos my life is insignificant compared to the universe.

if you dont go for studies now...will this thought come back and haunt you say 8-10 years down the road? by then will you start to regret and blame yourself why you didnt go for it today?

That's precisely the kiasu mentality that makes me hate studying. So u mean anyone who doesn't have a degree will regret and suffer in the future? Because I see so many people studying Uni for the sake of having a "future", I feel the quality of graduates going down.

This is the 21st century, we live in highly complex, industrial societies with many different pulls and priorities at different times.

I think if you were 60 and needed to, or want to go back to school ... you should.

You are Singaporean ... ... you should have absolute freedom and liberty ... don't let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do .... this statement should be reserved for PRs, FTs, and aliens.

So if you are happy - stick to it.

If you need to in future ... find a way.

That's the Singapore way. That's the individual way.

personally i would not advice anyone who only wants to go to uni for the sake of a cert to go. learning should be for self-enrichment. Go only if u truly wish to learn.

When you decide that you want to do it, you might not have the opportunity again without big upheavels. I do not think you should go to uni for "bigger bucks" though....
