Actualyl no.....the German tanks had a great bang for the
buck. They usually took on 4-6 shermans alone(the tigers and
panthers)knocking out on average 3-4 before they were blown out ot
the sky by the CAS which they can do nothing to deal with since the
lutfwaffe was in the easy mainly. The German tanks could knock out
allied tanks at ranges in excess of 2000m.The allied tanks(the
churchill aside) could not do damage to the german tanks at ranges
more then 200-400m.Also the Shermans were very very very badly
designed and had the tendency to catch fire after even the lightest
of hits.
Also contary to popular believe the panthers ausf G seldom broke
down and the tigers were later modified with better horse power. The
tank that really had trouble was the pz7 or king tiger used same
engine as the tiger but had something like 15 tons more weight.Sure
when they 1st came out the panthers and tigers broken down often
but that was mainly due to the fact that they were rushed into
production to replace the Pz4's which were really really out
classed.Though i must admit the tigers were hard to produce, thus
making damn expensive and not many were made
As for your other points you cant really blame the germans not
having supplies,CAS,arty support or even numbers since they were
fighting 2 sides and was LOSING the war.You cant expect the loser
to have more supplies! They lost the war yes but during the time
from 1943-1946 their tanks were the best in the world.Their
intergration was also the best since they technically speaking came
up with the 1st mechanised divisions in the panzergrenider
divisions.Gudarien(sic) the father of armoured warfare had plans
the mechanise the whole german army by 1943 unfortunely he wasnt
very popular and did not get his wish.I suggest you read books and
accounts of the allied soldiers about how the germans fought. Also
the german tanks were the only tanks out fitted with Night vision
equipement. This was the counter the fact that they could not attack
or move in the day time due to allied Air power.
Sorry, but by all accounts at Kursk, the Germans were roughly
evenly matched in all departments to the Russians. Where they
failed was indeed poor tactics and coordination between their air
elements, tank infantry coordination, intelligence, preparation
while the Russians had all those.
Heh the Russians were more then a match. The German's northern
pincer got stuck a mere 30km frm their start line while the south
pincer only managed to gain headway due to the toughness of the
bloody waffen SS troops down there...something like 5 divisions of
them.Hitler should have listened to his generals like
Model,Guderian,Manstein and infact more of the OKW who said a
series of small localised counter attacks could stablise the
front!
