hello, looking for a cheap personal transport. anyone can recommend me some value-for-$ cars? hoping to find one that is ard 40k, so looks like only korean cars to go for. but was told that korean cars fuel consumption high and think i may be driving quite a lot, so guess fuel consumption might be an important factor. also for cars, which are the ones depreciating the most in the first few years? i am looking at the cheapest car (eg vios, lancer, accent) from each car dealer basically Very Happy can someone advise me. thanks.

S$40k with high FC, Picanto. Average at 17km/L and can go to 19-20km/L if done correctly. I guess that is your only choice. The next better one would be kelisa with similar FC. But it is usually priced S$2-3k above Picanto.

The next budget car with remarkable FC would be Vios, which S$15k above your stated budget. Then there is the City with super FC, at S$20k above you stated budget. Then the all-time favour, Jazz with un-beatable FC, but I guess you are S$26k short.

All model stated above are manual cars, cause manual cars are cheaper and produce better FC.

If you take everything in consideration - OMV, Consumption, etc... - Korean cars may not be the best buys...

Consider a parallel import Honda Fit 1.3L... about 66k now... if you scrap in 5 years you get (I think) 75% of OMV (high OMV - 1.3 Fit is 100% made in Japan) + COE rebate..., then you consider the 16km/l consumption... low road tax...

May be a better buy than high consumption, low OMV, Korean cars...

Agreed! The only korean car that have match-able FC is Picanto. But you suffer on the lack of other safety installation and also if you are tall...... Sad Singaporeans are getting taller and taller these days, soon I will have to smell everyone's armpit if I took a bus.
