Driving up to Malaysia

I'm intending to drive up to KL in 2 or 3 weeks from now, and due to some concerns, not intending to drive my own vehicle up there.

Was looking around for reasonably priced car rentals, and found Getz, Ignis, Matrix, Astra, Skoda Fabia and stuff at reasonable rates.

My friend wanted the Getz, but FC concerns me, particularly as we're driving a long way. Matrix's FC concerns me too.

I was considering the Ignis, but with it being 1.3l, would it be a problem for it to undergo such a long journey? Anyone has driven their Ignis up before? Its auto btw. Any idea bout the Ignis FC?

dont really have to worry about FC.. are you going up the north south highway??.. bring in the car into malaysia with 3/4 tank.. once in pump till full. Full tank will last you till you reach KL.... 100% highway driving...that is for a 50L tank.. Smile

Check the newspaper, lots of adverbs there.

I'm more concerned about the reliability actually, would hate it if the car died on us halfway.

You will not have any FC problem with any cars. Because you enter with 3/4 tanks. It should get you to KL in a tank, anyway there are a few rest point along the way with petrol kiosks so if you not too sure, can play safe and top up.

Getz will be a good choice .

For Ignis - 1.3L. I will not recommend that, it is a little underpower, as you are new to driving to KL, it is alway good to have a car that have some extra reserve power in case you need it to overcome some unexpected road situation.

Why don't you get a saloon car, then consider things matrix, a saloon car usually handle better in turns, and more stable, which sure help a lot for someone who driving up unfamiliar roads.

And take note of the speed limit as not every stretch is 110km/hr… Malacca stretch speed limit is 90km/hr

the saloon cars being offered are Sunnys and Matrixes. Matrix has less power, and I drive a Sunny myself. Confused

With regards to FC, i wasn't concerned about whether it'll last me to KL, more if i'd spend a bomb on fuel Razz

give you some insight and real life story.

I drove my 1.2 corsa up to KL with not much problem also. I also managed to hit 160km/h. At this speed, you may think is damn fast but when u drive over there, you realise thatyou are not driving fast at all becos a lot of vehicles dirving at that speed but be very careful with where you stop. Never lift your belongings inside the car.

My friend and gf left their bags inside> he drove a mazda 323 with ALARM. But when they got back, no window smash and they parked the place (can;t rmemeber the nameo f place but after Yong Peng) where a lot ofpeople stopped for a rest. and they lost their stuff. Piss off. We have to report police at Tangkat but when we were theere, we were told that Muar is then the right place. Prior to that, we called but were told to go Tangkat instead... anyway.. we bo chup, my friend knew a little melayu so insisted that they rpeort there. Guess what, we must pay RM4 to make a report. lol

anywaycut the story short, dirving there is not a problem with whatever car or at least i have no prob with my 1.2 car but ensure you have Rm4 keep in your boots / shoes Laughing just in case

dont note them....when u looking at the cars...always look at the top speed and the 0-100km/hnumbers...rent one that can at least go over 200km/h.and drive at twice the speed limit.

Get the sunny then, since you are use to it and it have more power. Why safe a few cents which that little extra power or performance could well safe your life. I am sure your safetly is worth at least that few dollar extra .

Funny think , if you drive a sunny, then how come you still rent a car ! Why don't you just drive your sunny up . Don't worry they don't steal sunny there.

Anyway if fuel is the concern, take bus there, $40-50 only to and fro. Better still safe a lot of money.

no good leh.....sunny 1.5 EX saloon top speed is 160km/h while 1.6 supersaloon is 180km/h

Anyway our friend here is will die even spend a few more bucks in fuel, you think he will even drive above 110km/h ? He not want to drive that fast for 1) fear of using more fuel , 2) of fine by malaysia police !!!

So 160Km/h totally more than enough.

i hit speeds beyond 110km/h in singapore occasionally, even. so to assume i won't go beyond 110km/h on malaysian roads, is silly Razz

my sunny's 1 week odd old. hasn't broken 1000km yet, would be a drag to drive it up to KL. besides, i'm reluctant to drive it up there...

with regards to the FC, i just thought it wouldn't make sense to drive a car with a terrible FC, when i have other choices! i'd rather save the money to spend on other stuff. seems more logical that way...

Since it is a new car..Then it is right not to drive up to KL..New car shouldn't go above 90km/h for the first duno how many kilometres right..At else not good for the engine if i am not wrong..

Just teasing you only lah ! Your sunny is too new with under 1000km, it is not good for the car also dangerous as you have not test it totally yet.

Anyway why did you buy sunny ? it kind of FC is not as good as other cars. Just wondering .

well, my dad's paying my installments Razz

that aside, the Sunny's one of the cheaper "made in japan" cars. And the sunny, though FC aside lacking, is actually a pretty good ride in the sense that its quite stable. Can't think of another car in its price range which would provide a ride like that.
