Viper52 SG Common myth. Actually AR15 is the company (Colt) and civilian designation for the rifle, the M16 is the designation allocated by the US Army The presence of the forward assist differentiates between the M16 and M16A1
wombat SG If I recall correctly, AR15 do not have the Auto mode. Although I do remember reading that there are modification kits to "upgrade" to Auto.
erijazz SG AR15 oso stands for Assualt Rifle 15. it is a semi-auto rifle without the forward asst. and only using the 20rds magazine initially before they had the 30rds magazine
erijazz SG I had fired with both AR15 and M16S1, both weapon come with the catch level of safe, semi and auto mode.
NathanG5 SG its exactly the same.. i hate tat M16 forward assist thingy..keep bruising my back when i back sling..heng onli use it for BMT... n sway when i have to use AR15 for the rest of my NS life...it got decade of carbon tat kenot be rid off using conventional means.. the worst is the cauliflower..knn..forever kenot be clean.... at least when using M16 during BMT time..its much cleaner n not tat old... can anyone tell me which weapon is older? or its produce at abt the same year?
wombat SG Yeap. Used the AR-15 too before, and our version do comes with the AUTO. What I mean is the cilivan AR-15. It is supposed to be illegal to have the AUTO switch. Here is a site with more detailed info, with pictures on the differences http://www.ar15.com/content/docs/AR15-M16Parts/
|-|05| SG err..howcome you all say AR-15 no auto and thats a difference? The M16 comes with single and 3 short burst nia leh unless you upgrade…..
NathanG5 SG cos all SAF M16 n AR15 got all 4 function..safe, semi Auto(1 shot), 3 burst, Auto... COCK N PUT TO SAFE!!!!!
[email protected] SG actually, AR15 is preceddor to M16. AR15 was used by US army, they decided they liked it, contracted colt to provide assault rifles for the army, with a few specifications of their own, and designated it the M-16
|-|05| SG Ya but the original M-16's didnt have those.... Anyway i thought the civc version of the M-16 comes under some other name? The one that sniper in the use used...dunno what's it called... Edit:After searching the net for info.....they all state that there is no difference between the M16 and the AR-15.....apart from markings. The difference is only starting from the XM16E1(later known as the M16A1) which has a forward assist which the Ar15/M16 didnt.
Silenthunter SG The one that the sniper use is a Bushmaster modified AR15..... Bushmaster is a gun coy on US.
kopiosatu SG Firers watch the front, ready put to safe own time own target, carry on~!! i miss the smell of carbon... or gunpowder?
NathanG5 SG boh meh?? i was doubting myself also when i was posting tat previous post...hmmmm...ok who can can cfm?? i try to recall my ATP lecture...too long ago to recall
Viper52 SG The AR15 assault rifle family (carbines not included) M16 - No Forward Assist, 3 firing modes: Safe; Semi and Full Auto M16A1 - Forward Assist, 3 firing modes: Safe; Semi and Full Auto M16A2 - Forward Assist, 3 firing modes: Safe; Semi and 3-round burst. The M16S1 built in Singapore is an M16A1 copied lock stock and barrel. Literally. The A1/S1 has no 3 round burst facility, I know because my unit used to go full auto on our rifles to finish up rounds after range.
