I am in the sales line too.. in the past my office give me a car to drive
(including drive back home)and allow me to claim all the petrol/car park etc...
but after few years i change to those minivan that look like car due to the scrap of car.
But i had already left the company and.
for your info, you are quite lucky to get $700/- for car allowance. I went for an interview recently and they only offer $500/- for car allowance... (including installment/petrol/car park)etc... but i had reject them as this amount are too low to maintain or substain a car.

Well, frankly speaking I'm in sales line too, and your package of 700 dollars is market price. I got 665 dollars excluding the season parking (which is also paid for by my company), so add up its somewhere ard there.

Okie, 22 and just got your license. My advise is not to get a car under your name, as it will be very very expensive. The insurance is easily 2.5k to 3k, depending on what car you buy, not inclusive of road tax. So........ its best if you can drive your dad's car or get it under your dad's name etc. Really no choice. Typically, most company will not paid for your car insurance, just like mine. But i do know of a few company who does actually for their engineers. So if he is covering part of your car insurance, guess its better than nothing. Smile

Hmm... but in my industry, my competitors getting between $900 to $1100 leh!! And those that gets $600-700, all their parking and petrol are claimable...
Maybe I should try and count my blessings.... Embarassed

My Dad has no car no license, so no choice.. have to start somewhere...
Boss covers ALL for the rest of my colleague... but not for me.... why dun he thinks that since I am still young, I need him to be my "fairy godfather" and help by paying all of my car insurance and road tax? Anyway, me being mobile is also for the company right? Then I can "ferry" the suppliers to and fro when they are in sg, during my sales call, save time on waiting for taxis, thus increasing my efficiency, in turns more profits for the company... then no need spend extra company expenses when calling cab... Can have more catalogues with me, can put in car boot, can show bring samples to show customers... I only have 2 hands, hw to carry everything to see customer?

If he insists on capping at $2K, then maybe I will heed his advise and wait for another yr or so.. or I should pay more for the convenience and go ahead to buy a car... What do you guys think?

by the way, i had check a few of my frenz also this few day on their allowance.. most of them are average 500-600. I realli can't understand this company,they should knw the average of maintaining a car are around 1k and they still can offer you 500+

Nope, I am still as undecided and clueless...
Gonna spend this weekend by going to the showrooms to find out more.

Yup, these Bosses no niaow... Somemore I handle the hospital areas, parking at hospi not cheapy leah! Haiz! Just assume that I spend 6hrs at the hospital, 1 hr approx $1.20. Everyday I will have to pay $7.20. 1 week=$36. 1mth=approx 200 more liao!

Lao niang not born with silver, not even bronze spoon in mouth... Hw to afford?? I haven't include petrol...

How about you? Which industry are you in?

I am in the building const industry.. for me as sales, i normally had to go to meet those arch or consultant which are located all over the town but mostly at CBD area.. my car parking will also comeout around hundred everymonth on those area.. and my past petrol are about 300-350+ per month when i drive a car.. easily come out to 500 for both without installation... that's why now i still looking for a job which can afford more on transport..

I actually thinking of considering the City as well during my trip to the showroom which my frenz work.. i like their FC and also their interior which i feel look better than a lot of new model but after consider the market rate offer so low... i am now thinking getting new Getz or those 2-3yrs car with low fc..

Yup yup! Me too!! The Vios look terrible with the meter in the center!
And the city is more spacious, foldable rear seats... tempting huh?

ya.. vios are not my choice either but i dun know why so many ppl dun like City.. ask around my frenz and ex colleage.. all said not nice cause the backside.. but i like the front.. look better than Jazz which my sis driving...

Getz is in the list cos the FC is not as bad as Matrix.. See har, in sales line, we put the FC factor high on our list of consideration.

Ya Ya!! My frenz were all saying that the City looks like "cee lang chia" (dead ppl's car) from the back. Keeps reminding me that the car is hideous.. Which I kinda agree too. Then they started to recommend Vios cos it looks better...

But when I finally get to see the inside of Vios, thats when I sorta decided that I did better get a City. Haha!!

Hey, I quite like Jazz! Quite cute what... And I esp dig the pastel yellow one...
But, damn! $60k+++!! (Harrow proceeds to strike the Jazz out of her list...) Sad

today went for another interview.. not back..
the company are quite reasonable..
they offer me their spare car(dun knw what brand) and
complete with all the insurance/tax/petrol etc...etc... lucky..

guess i will put off my plan to get one now...
